Four-time James Beard Award-nominated chef Manabu Horiuchi, (Chef Hori- San) Partner Yun Cheng and Managing Partner Ryan Snyder have opened a sushi, wagyu, and sake-focused restaurant in Montrose. Katami, a name that translates to “gift” or “keepsake” in Japanese, represents what Chef Hori-San believes is the future of Japanese cuisine in America. It is his gift to the city of Houston, for the love you have shown him over the 17 years since he and Yun introduced our sister restaurant, Kata Robata. We are accepting reservations through Resy & walk-ins.

The food was delicious. I would definitely recommend the King Crab Sando, the amaebi nigiri with or without uni, and the madai tempura roll. Everything tasted fresh and well executed. They also have a daily specials menu, which was pretty cool and gave us even more options to choose from. I was eyeing the foie gras PBJ milk bread but decided not to get it. A friend told me it’s really good, so I’ll definitely be ordering that next time along with the bone marrow to try.
They also suprised us with free slices of cake, which made the night even more special. We also ordered the apple caramel bread pudding for dessert and I would highly recommend it. It was the perfect way to end the meal.
Overall, great service, great food, and a really memorable dinner. I’ll definitely be back.
The staff seated us at the counter, so we could watch the sushi chef prepare everything fresh.
Great experience overall — the sushi was excellent and the service was very attentive. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
The food was completely out of this world beautifully executed, bold, and unforgettable. Every dish felt thoughtful and perfectly balanced. The drinks were just as impressive, packed with flavor and creativity. Definitely order the one with the red dots… trust the staff on this one. They explain how it literally opens up your senses so you can fully enjoy all the food, and they were absolutely right.
From service to flavors to overall vibe, Katami exceeded expectations in every way. A must try if you’re looking for something truly elevated and memorable.
The restaurant is quite large, with a nice sushi bar, a full bar with good seating and two main dining areas. Reservations are highly recommended.
All the sushi/sashimi items were freshly prepared and superbly presented. The wagyu beef on hot rock was very good! The deserts were superb, with the shave ice one being made out of ice flown in from Japan
The service was friendly and prompt, with a lot of good suggestions.
Update :
Went to Katami again and once again the food & service was both exceptional . We had the tuna sashimi flight and then pretty much every roll on the menu. All were absolutely delicious, can’t recommend all the names but took pictures. The one that had gold flakes on it and the texas roll were the ones that stood out to me the most .
