Y’all, Katabatic is excellent. Top shelf. The beers are always super clean; they never disappoint. Super friendly staff. Food’s available from the restaurant next door, too, and that’s also super good. Can’t get enough. 11/10 stars.

The old brick building that houses KBC is a great setting. I tried the Scotch ale and the American Pale. Both were really good. I would try the Scotch on nitro next time. Food from the neighbors Mexican restaurant was good and an epic portion of guac with the chicharrònes. Great swag and friendly service.

I’ve visited Katibatic a few times now, and every trip somehow ends up becoming a memorable adventure. The beer alone is worth the detour—balanced IPAs, a surprisingly complex amber, and a blueberry wheat that feels like pure Canadian summer in a glass. The atmosphere is warm, unpretentious, and very “everyone knows everyone,” in the best way.
Full disclosure: I know the owner, let’s call him Shawn, and he’s every bit as genuine as the brewery he runs. We once even ended up spending a night in a Ford Explorer together during a particularly misadventurous road trip in Canada—don’t worry, the beer wasn’t to blame, just two adults making questionable but entertaining life choices.
Personal history aside, Shawn’s passion shows in every pint poured. His staff is friendly, the space is welcoming, and the whole place feels like a community hub where stories are traded as freely as tasting flights.
If you’re anywhere nearby, stop in. Come for the beer; stay for the atmosphere. And who knows—you might even leave with a story of your own (though maybe keep it out of the Explorer).

Updated six years after first visit: smaller than the other local brewery, but always active. The beer styles here beat the competition, and the location and setup are perfect for the main drag. Solid range of IPAs, malty options, and others worth a try. Bring your own food, or it’s quick to have orders from the Mexican place next door brought over. Family friendly.

Great place to visit! I loved the atmosphere here. We came to visit in June from Arkansas & it was super busy. Loved they had a window garage that opened, my husband & I didn’t stop in soon enough & table by that garage door was taken, but was still great where we sat. Brad was our bartender and he was great, definitely checked with us often (service 5 ). We tried the Elk shed & scotch ale w/nitro & was rich in flavor, very smooth.People were friendly & had great things to say about Katabatic & the area. We had such a great time & will be back to visit often. Check out my Tiktok where we did scope the place @thechapmans72317

Micro @ local brewery with fantastic beers. Service was top notch.
Food is served in partnership from next door.
Handicapped accessible.
Building on the National Register – I think that is true for all of downtown Livingston. This is in the heart of the town.
Enjoy your travels.

Love their flagship IPA! Great atmosphere, location and friendly service. Might be the best beer I’ve tasted during my visit to this part of Montana. They serve food from the Mexican place next door.
