Omakase was perfect & very fairly priced. Fish quality was over the top orgasmic good.
We also had the baby octopus salad photo attached that was absolutely fantastic tender and extremely tasty.
In short extremely glad we finally tried this place. Won’t be the last time for sure.
One of my favorites maki is the off-menu umeshiso maki, and it is the first time i see it on a menu. Despite having dinner plans in less than two hours, we opted for a few items to savor the moment. The chirashi, priced reasonably at $45.00, was a delightful combination of generous fish portions and the perfect amount of rice. For those undecided, it’s an excellent choice.
In addition to the chirashi, I ordered the umekyu maki, fatty salmon nigiri, and a salmon skin roll. Each dish hit the mark in terms of taste and presentation. The miso soup was a flavorful accompaniment to the meal.
The service remained as friendly and attentive as I remembered, and the ambiance, thankfully unchanged, retained the traditional Japanese restaurant feel that I’ve always appreciated about Kashiwa. Overall, my return to Kashiwa was not only reassuring but also a reminder of why it has been my favorite place for traditional Japanese sushi in Long Beach.
I ordered the Sashimi Omakase and the Live Shrimp for a total around $77.
The fish was fresh and was textured exactly how I expected the cuts to be.
The Live Shrimp is definitely a unique item I haven’t tried before, and is something I recommend to the adventurous eater. You get the bodies (which are freshly slaughtered) on nigiri rolls and the heads are fried completely. I’ve had sushi places fry fish bones after the dish was completed, before, so this seemed pretty normal. I ate the legs and the backs, but decided to leave the heads since I was sure how I felt about them.
I will definitely be back next time I visit Long Beach for work! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had a great time. Definitely will come back for more omakase.
The food is well worth the money, and is extremely fresh. While the price may turn away some you are paying for quality and a superb range of flavors that other sushi places do not achieve.
The restaurant does get busy later in the day and for good reason, if you want to eat dinner here a reservation is a good idea.
This is my favorite place for traditional sushi. The food and experience are excellent. Service starts with hot hand towels, and the miso soup and hot tea are good, but the star is the sushi. The fish was sparkling fresh, and portioned and cut the way I like. Of course it is – because the chef is a fussy old guy whose been doing this for decades.
Advice to diners – If you want rolls with cream cheese and pistachios, then try elsewhere. Ask about the specials – they buy what is best and won’t buy the rest. Please keep asking for dine-in service to restart.
