Counter service setup was quick and the person taking my order was very helpful as I had a few questions when ordering.

The Texas Pintos are delicious and could honestly be a meal on their own they’re so good. I loved the sweet BBQ sauce. The brisket was great and had a nice strip of fat and the best flavor. And who doesn’t love a nice crunchy pickle?

I felt a little awkward taking up a whole table meant for 6 people with multiple families also in the restaurant, as that’s the only kind of table they have

I do wish they had fountain sodas and tea rather than just bottled drinks.

Kar’s Char offers free meals to those in need and gives customers the option to purchase a $10 meal ticket for someone to use. I thought this was very nice and it is set up rather discreetly.

**Solid BBQ With Room for Weekend Potential**

I recently visited this BBQ spot and had a generally positive experience. The brisket had a noticeable smoky flavor, which I really appreciated—it’s a hallmark of good BBQ. That said, it was a bit on the dry side during my visit. I suspect this may be due to lower food turnover during off-peak hours, so I’m definitely open to trying it again on a weekend when there’s more consistent flow and fresher cuts coming off the smoker.

As for dessert, the banana pudding wasn’t quite my style. I personally prefer firmer cookies in the mix, and these were a bit too soggy for my taste. Still, I understand that’s a matter of preference.

One thing I want to commend is the staff. They were attentive and made a point to check in on how everything was. While I didn’t feel compelled to raise any concerns at the time, their effort to ensure a good experience didn’t go unnoticed.

Overall, it’s a place worth revisiting—especially when the kitchen is in full swing on a busier day.

First time in Kar’s Char today. The gentlemen behind the counter, who I assume were the owners, were quite pleasant and professional.
Ordered the meat sampler with brisket, sausage and burnt ends and collards and pinto beans for my sides. Comes served on a cookie sheet with toast and a dill spear.
Let me begin by stating that Texas-style BBQ is not my forte so I cannot judge “authenticity”, only how this food suited my palate and preferences. Just because something isn’t to my particular taste, or I prefer others’ food, doesn’t make it “bad”.
That being said, the sausage was my favorite of the meats. It was mild and flavorful, not too smoky or overcooked. Very tasty!
The brisket was juicy and tender, but lacking in seasoning & smoke. I tend to prefer a smoky, more heavily seasoned brisket. It did pair well with the sauce on the table.
The burnt ends were not my thing. I believe them to be simmered in a thick sauce. I prefer them to be naturally caramelized during the cooking process.
The collards were well seasoned and did well with a splash of the pepper vinegar on the table. The pinto beans struck me as chili style beans. They were hot and tasty.
I will add that I do not believe that their meats are smoked on site. I’m pretty sure that they prepare their meats elsewhere and then reheat them to order. Not all of my meat was particularly hot or seemed like it was just prepared. I also felt like I spent a little more than I would have liked, right at $34 with tip. However, I got full and didn’t leave anything on my plate.

Kars Char has a number of delicious menu options that I’ve tried so far. My favorite is the Rueben and they make a delicious brisket chili. You can’t go wrong with the sampler and Mac and Cheese Brisket is super comforting. The sides of greens are done perfect and i’m excited to continue my exploration of the entire menu. Take some time off from Blue Moon and try some real hometown BBQ

We thought it was pretty good. My wife had the pulled pork plate and I had a double meat plate with sausage and chicken. I was a little caught off guard by the chopped chicken, but everything was pretty decent. My wife had beans and fries as her sides. I had their beans and rice and Mac n cheese! I tasted her beans and they were delicious. The brisket in the beans takes them to another level. We spent about $27.00 for the meal as shown. Will definitely return!

We tried the brisket, sausage, pork, fries, mac, and banana pudding. The banana pudding is the only item we would order again if we came back. The employees were kind and passionate about the food, which was nice to see. Unfortunately we did not enjoy most of what we ordered and found it to be dry and lacking flavor, and also did not enjoy the bbq sauce. We ate around 6:30pm, and it appeared as if the food had been sitting in a warmer for a majority of the day and was not fresh.

I’m always a little skeptical when I hear of a “Texas style” bbq place. But they had bbq sauce on the table and it was served with bread and a dill pickle. So thats exactly what I’m looking for. The brisket was decent but not amazing. Same with the mac and cheese. Fries were great! For the price I wish 8oz of meat was the standard. I’ll probably try a different place next time I visit. But I’ve been to larger cities with worse brisket. So all in all this place is pretty decent.

Had lunch to-go and it was really good. We ordered the pick 2 plate (brisket and chicken) and the brisket Ruben as a wrap and both were excellent. Looking forward to trying other menu items as we’ll definitely return.

Woof. my wife, our friend and I decided in advance to come here for dinner, and it absolutely did not disappoint. It’s rare that I will order more food after the first round to go, but the smoked sausage had me back up at the counter and begging for as much as I could get to take with.

My friend had a Smokehouse cheeseburger with a side of mac and cheese, and was absolutely filled by the end of it. My wife had the Batty Fries with pulled pork and onion rings, and was so stuffed she had to get a to go box! I personally had the meat sampler, and absolutely scarfed every piece of food on it, before going back and asking for more smoked sausage. I have never in my life had sausage that just melts when you bite into it, and that was an experience I will gladly come back for.

The owners/staff were very friendly and happy to hold a conversation, and gladly answered any questions I had for them. If you are in the Huntsville area, definitely come and give this place your business, as you won’t regret it!

Came by for lunch and got the half n half and loved it! The vinegar slaw was very good (the pink is neat), and the brisket was great! I really appreciate them having pasta salad as an option as it seems lighter than the usual beans/potato salad/mac n cheese most places offer. I’ll definitely be back!
