The first thing that impressed me was the decor and overall atmosphere. The central floral arrangement is especially stands out in the space. The interior design feels like a modern luxury Asian-inspired style with strong Art Deco influences, which creates a very elegant and unique environment.
We were seated near the sushi bar area and ordered a variety of sushi dishes. Honestly, there wasn’t a single dish that I disliked. The restaurant servers both Japanese and Chinese cuisine, but I could also sense some French-inspired elements in the presentation and flavor combinations.
Among all the dishes we tried, my top three favorites were the Kumamoto Oysters, Otoro with Truffle & 24K Gold Leaf, and the Uni & Caviar Toast. Each one had a very rich and memorable flavor.
The service was also amazing. Staff members in different roles (I assume) were very attentive and quickly remove our empty plates throughout the meal, which made the experience feel smooth and well-organized.
Overall, this is definitely a high-end Asian fusion restaurant. As a customer, I could clearly feel the sense of luxury through the food, the services, and the interior design. It was a wonderful dining experience. I will definitely come back.
Reservations are very hard to get last minute so plan ahead or else go as a party of two and do a walk in for the sushi counter.
I have been twice now, and the second time was at the sushi counter which was a terrific experience! It’s fun to watch the chefs make the food and hand it right to us, and they gave us a surprise lobster tempura roll with caviar! Wow. So unexpected and so very delicious!!
My son had the tuna tataki salad which ended up being a very large tasty dish, so most of his other two orders of rolls came home with us.
Not to be missed is the Salmon on Fire. I have had a version of this at Oishii, but this one is so tasty with all the herbs encrusted on the sides.
The pad thai and baby bok choy are also well executed and scrumptious!
I am so happy Karma opened in Wellesley. It’s definitely more elevated than the Karma I went to in Concord and is a home run!
The vibes enhance the menu, with open kitchen seating as well.
There are showstoppers like Salmon on Fire and the Pineapple Fried Rice. and Yellowtail Thai Basil in The Spoon had balanced flavors of hot salty sweet and spicy
Their Kobe Roll was THE best, of the flavors really popped in the quality of the beef shined through, and the Coffee Braised Short Ribs impressed with cheap flavors and the beef was super tender.
The Matcha Cake dessert was impossibly light, the matcha flavor shine through without being covered by too much sugar sweet. and the Strawberry Ice Cream Saki Affagado was enjoyed separately. definitely an interesting take, and the freeze-dried strawberries gave it a great pop, but sipping on the sake separately was the right move
Dishes:
Salmon On Fire Coffee Bean Smoked Salmon w. a Hint of Citrus, Truffle, Raspberry Dressing

* Duck Bao: 2/5 stars: the bun was nicely steamed and the first bite of duck was good but the rest of the bun and filling was *soaked* in hoisin source – literally a pool of sauce on my plate. Not cool.
* Xiao Long Bao: 3/5 stars. Disclaimer:I’ve had XiaoLong Bao many times at Din Tai Fung which is a high bar. Karma’s version was ok but I was not wow’ed.
* Cantonese Chow-Fun: 4/5 stars – highlight of the evening. the dish was overall authentic and tasted good; I’d order it again!
* Flower Salmon sushi: 3.5/5. It was ok but too much going on: too many flavors and thick layers of sauces overpowering the salmon. The jalapeño is a nice touch though.
To top it off I ordered a coffee to go with my dessert but the coffee machine apparently broke down…. Ending on a more positive note: our waiter was friendly and courteous and the atmosphere was nice (minus the noise level)
Might give Karma another try sometime in the future and will remember to request “light on hoisin sauce”
