But Friday the 20th my wife and I decided to make the drive because we had a rare day off together and I was craving.
We were seated quickly and the staff was friendly. GG was our server and I asked her about the shrimp burrito in ranchero sauce because I didn’t see it on the menu to which I was given the very sad news that they no longer served it. I’m a creature of habit, and I’ve been coming to this chain since my early 20s and I always get that burrito with rice and beans. Was very disappointed to find it’s no longer a menu item, it was literally what made me make the drive from lakeside.
Once getting that news I had to actually look at the menu and find something else. I ordered tha carne asada plate and my wife had the Green enchiladas. I also ordered the ceviche tostada.
I was a little worried the carne asada might be thin and dry but it was actually a nice thickness and super tender. I had a bite of the enchiladas too, also really good. Another new thing I noticed is that now chips and salsa are not complimentary, sad. But unfortunately not something new to the restaurant scene as of late.
I recommend getting the tacos enchilados and the camarones empanizados.
Check them out if you are looking for authentic Mexican seafood! Karina’s never disappoints.

Finding the restaurant was also a challenge; my GPS directed me to the wrong location, leading me to circle the shopping center multiple times. When I called for assistance, the hostess seemed irritated that I couldn’t locate them.
I had opted for curbside service to avoid leaving my dog unattended in the car. However, upon arrival, all designated pickup spots were occupied. I parked at the curb and waited, observing the hostess glance at me several times over five minutes without taking any action. Eventually, I had to leave my car parked in a fire lane to go inside and collect my order, which was inconvenient and defeated the purpose of choosing curbside service.
Overall, this experience left a negative impression. With so many other dining options available, I don’t plan on returning.
Fast forward to today—I ordered again and asked to speak to the manager. The person refused to even confirm if she was the manager. When I explained I was trying to follow up on my previous complaint, she said unless I knew her name and the complaint had been made at least two weeks ago, there was nothing she could do. I mentioned how every time we order to-go, something is missing. Her response? “I can’t just give things away for free,” and asked if I still wanted to place the order—basically, take it or leave it.
We received the food from our order today and again the ceviche barely had any shrimp but had a lot of cucumber. Getting a plate of cucumber with a few pieces of shrimp for $27.00 is definitely not worth it.
This kind of dismissive, unprofessional attitude is exactly why this place is going downhill. It’s overpriced, the quality is low, and they rely more on flashy appearances than good food or service.
Good customer service and just a little attention to feedback would go a long way—but clearly, that’s not a priority here.
Save your money and skip the hype. You’ll get better food, better treatment, and a better experience somewhere else.
I was never asked to order a second drink. No water was served unless we asked.
The waitress checked on us many times to make sure that we were ok. The food was great, delicious and plenty. The calamari and jumbo coconut shrimps were amazing, along with the rest of the order.
Only thing that was slightly negative was the fact that happy hour was only served at the bar. Most restaurant did the same thing, but would you be like most when everything else is already top notch. Maybe Happy hour prices available throughout the restaurant, and ill be happy to raise to a five star. Excellent service and food overall, plus a very classy and clean environment.
