We were up in Maine mid-April and looking for a fun lunch spot that was dog friendly and had good food. Not much was open, especially any place with outdoor seating after striking out in Boothbay Harbor, we spotted Karen’s on the way out. We didn’t see it at first and had to turn around and go back.
Boy, were we glad we did!. My wife doesn’t eat seafood, so we didn’t have high hopes but her burger was fresh and amazingly good. My lobster roll was perfect.
This is NOT a tourist trap, this is the real deal, this is the place that the locals go and it’s quite “rustic”. The locals we met were super friendly and a pleasure to chat with.
Karen is a gem and we greatly enjoyed our conversation with her.

Honestly, if you didn’t know they served great lobster rolls, you’d probably give this place a sideways glance and wrinkle your nose. It’s a sorta run down food trailer sitting back off the road, nothing that would WOW you. BUT…the lobster rolls…OMG… delicious with wads of lobster meat. Do yourself a favor, if you’re in the Boothbay, ME area, leave the fancy/expensive restaurants in town behind and stop by Karen’s Hideaway.

Just left Karen’s with takeout. The food smelled so amazing we had to start eating. We got the combo and picked scallops and Haddock. The scallops melt in your mouth like butter. Food was fresh, hot and delicious! We will definitely be back. Karen was very friendly and kind.

Friendly little lobster shack on the side of the road that offers non-seafood options for those in the group that aren’t interested in lobster, scallops, clams, fish and other tasty goodies.
We got the fried seafood combo, and it was huge!!! We left way too full, but also very happy. Highly recommended!

We stopped at Karen’s Hideaway on our way to Boothbay Harbor and had a great meal. We ordered 2 small lobster rolls and 1 big boy lobster roll. The lobster rolls were really good, with no shortage of lobster meat. The side cole slaw and potato salads had great flavor as well.

I’m intrigued and rather shocked at the 4.6 rating. Usually, I’m very agreeable with my experiences and the ratings by the majority of fellow google raters.
We walked up to the building confused on exactly where to go. A lack of employees in either building added to my initial confusion.
We stopped specifically for an authentic Maine lobster roll. After seeing lobsters in an aquarium in a run down garage building, I should’ve maybe tried a different place. The lobster tank inside was not clean and mold was in the top of the tank. Another reason I should’ve ran.
I had no idea the price of the lobster roll and ordered based on what I expected the price to be for an out in the middle of nowhere place. No prices were listed. After I ordered it, I was told $30. I should’ve ran. Fast. And far.
The lobster roll was served on an amazingly buttery flavored but incredibly small undersized hot dog roll. Very mediocre and very lightly seasoned/sauced lobster chunks were stacked on the bun. It was soooooo CHEWY and it took forever to swallow. It was served with chips and the smallest container or coleslaw in the history of any of the New England states. Don’t spit on my face and tell me it’s just raining outside. This place is STEEPLY overpriced for what you get.
Lastly, marijuana smoke smells disgusting and I don’t want my clothes saturated with that thick fungus’y smell of rank stank weed. That’s all I smelled while waiting a while for the aforementioned $30 lobster mini roll.
Ps….I choked some pepto afterwards…… just in case.

The big boy does not play. Karen was super nice and let me try both the slaw and the potato salad when I couldn’t choose and they were both awesome

Husband and I finally returned to Booth Bay, Me after probably 5 years, I must say when you snooze, you loose! I love this area and it didn’t take long to realize it. Won’t happen again! I do remember eating at Karen’s Hideaway and upon arriving at our Campground, we made a bee line the next day for an early dinner. Karen and her husband are the most nicest and kind people!! Hub and I both got large Lobster Rolls, each one with 1/2 pound of meat nestled in a buttered, toasted hot dog bun. Hub had his with light mayo, I had mine naked with drawn butter. We both had her delicious potato salad made with bacon and cheese. Very good hot fries as well. That Lobster was so perfectly cooked and so tender. We both were in Hog Heaven!! We had very little conversation because are mouths were full of lobster goodness. It was fantastic! We got a tour of the live Lobster tanks, Karen’s husband Garry even posed with two lobsters for me, he has the great gift of gab, lucky me! Other than Lobster and Crab rolls, you can get Hamburgers and Hot dogs and dinners. A great road side place to eat, many picnic tables with umbrellas to eat your food. Save yourself the aggravation of going downtown trying to find a parking spot, just pull up and plenty of parking and enjoy the fresh air and a Delish, fresh Lobster or Crab roll. Must try Karen’s, Debbie and Bob, Mich

We just got to the place at 6:20pm. Hours online indicate that the place closes at 7pm. Even though (you can see on the pictures) place looks open the Lady in the counter window (probably Karen/ owner) in very rude and impolite manner asked us, quoting: “I closed 20 min ago. What do you want?” I cannot rate food but service approach and manners were definitely terrible. Stay away. Its not worth it, there are plenty of other shacks around go visit.

Absolutely delicious, favorite seafood place in the neighborhood! The shrimp is perfectly breaded and doesn’t have that dirt grit. Salads were nice too.
