During dinner service, several trays of food had a strong, foul odor and were clearly unsafe to serve, forcing us to throw them away. The smell was so overwhelming that it was difficult to even stand near the kitchen area, it made me gag, and I am not normally sensitive. Many guests left full or nearly full plates untouched, and more than half of the food trays were left over, much of it not salvageable.
Most upsetting was that the food quality was nothing like the tasting we had at their restaurant. What was promised and what was delivered were completely different. This was my brother’s wedding reception, and the experience was embarrassing, sad, and deeply disappointing for our entire family.
We cannot recommend Akmal’s Catering to anyone looking for timely service, fresh food, or quality catering, and strongly caution others against trusting them with an important event. They are not even willing to take responsibility for their actions.
They have best Chana, roghni naan in town.
You can’t find taste of fried fish, chicken Tikka, chapli kabobs ND many more anywhere else.
Overall amazing food and service.
The food I had at Karahi Kabab was delicious. I have not had such great kabobs in the DC for a long time. The meat was perfectly cooked, nicely charred yet still juicy. The chickpeas were extremely creamy and did not have any excess oil. The Naans were unlike anywhere else, nicely baked with a tasty ghee and sesame topping. The seasoning and salt levels of all the food was on point. Everything was served at the same time and came piping hot. But make sure to come with patience as they make everything to order and become very busy with takeout orders. Regardless, the service here was great and they were very friendly and apologetic about the wait time. But in the end, the food was definitely worth the wait.
This restaurant has the potential to be amazing, but it falls short.
My wife and I visited six months ago, and we were disappointed to find bugs and flies everywhere. The buffet was dry, old, and poorly lit, and the plastic garden tables and chairs were a letdown. But we didn’t give up! We went back yesterday to give it another chance, but unfortunately, the hygiene situation had worsened. There were even more flies and bugs, and the bathroom was nasty. To top it off, we ordered Nihari, which tasted old, and we ended up with food poisoning.
Let’s hope the owner takes our feedback to heart and makes some much-needed changes. Don’t go there… yet! Let’s give them time to turn things around. It’s a waste of time and money for now, but with a little effort, this place could be transformed. Maybe the owner just needs a reminder of why they got into the restaurant business in the first place.
