Refined yet cozy spot for authentic Japanese cuisine.
Victoria is lucky to have KAPPO Marta around. Service was first-class from the moment we walked in. Shrimp Gyoza was light yet incredibly moist inside – a delicate balance done just right. The Oyako Don was done to perfection, with delicious pickled garnishes. Chirashi Don was exactly what I was hoping for, and though squid may not be my favorite, every fish in the bowl was unique and tasty. Visually stunning, by the way.
To be honest, one of my now favorite spots in all of Victoria. Definitely coming back – thank you for a great meal!

This is the best Authentic Japanese in Victoria hands down. Haven’t had such a wonderful set since being in Japan! I have been two nights in a row.
The Sabayaki and Chicken Katsu sets were perfectly executed and each of the sides are made expertly. Delicious!

Loved it! What a hidden gem. Fantastic food, great value, very friendly (if quite hands-off) service. It’s a small spot, so I’d recommend calling ahead to make a reservation if you don’t want to wait, especially on a weekend.
I was there in the evening, and my one note is that you could take this place from a 4.9 to a 5 by just dimming the lights like 30%. A little bit of a lunch cafeteria vibe, but still worth it for the food 🙂

Fantastic menu, quality ingredients, waitress was very attentive and quick. Even the customers there were noticeably of good nature in passing! Food came fast, while dishes were still mindfully presented. Try a dinner set and don’t skip ice cream with mochi balls for desert!

This place has great customer service. I was greeted immediately and they checked how my meal was twice.
I got the Tuna Tataki Teishoku set. Their portions are fantastic, and for such a great price. The mixed veggies were excellent, the tuna was good, and I loved the squash croquette. One thing that I didn’t like, was the tempera batter, it was a bit too hard.
Next time, I would love to try the chef’s special. One of my neighboring tables ordered it, and it looks like it would be good for 2-3 people to share if they ordered a few other small items.

We tried Kappo for this first time this weekend and enjoyed ourselves immensely.
The teishoku sets were arranged in such a pleasing manner, had lots of variety, and tasted great to boot! Neither of us could finish all our side dishes.
The saba shio yaki was absolutely delicious. Perfectly salted, crisp on top, and with that classic oily and fishy flavour. The wasabi-gomae, koroke, pickles, and perfectly cooked rice were the other stand outs in my opinion.
The tempura and katsu sides were OK, but honestly a bit too rich/filling with the already oily/rich main dish. A small complaint in the grand scheme of things, however. I think someone with a bigger appetite would disagree with me!
The space was very cute and clean, and the service was friendly.
We will be back to try more!

Generous portions and a really delicious katsu set, fried perfectly with high-quality ingredients. Even the side dishes were as good as the main. The staff were all very friendly as well.

This is the best teishoku set i’ve had since living in Japan! Amazing service and even better food. I seriously couldnt stop eating. The sabayaki (grilled mackerel) set came with tempura, miso, rice, some greens, and some sort of grilled salmon(?). The set was $23 – a steal!

One of my favorite Japanese restraunts in Victoria and favorite restaurants in general! The food is amazing, the service is great, all the staff are very kind, I only have good things to say
The only things to keep in mind is that it does get a little busy and they don’t take same day reservations so it is helpful to plan ahead for that, also there is only limited street parking available

We visited Kappo Marta a few days ago and my partner and I are still raving to each other about our experience.
The food is fresh, fresh and so beautifully presented. First we ordered the chicken Gyoza (dumplings) and Rock Shrimp. Omg, each was soooo delicious that we made very short work of them. The gyoza was tasty, a little crispy on the outside with a delicious blend of spices but just enough to make the whole taste a special experience. The Rock Shrimp were out of this world! Crispy yet juicy and fresh with a sauce over top that in combination made it an absolute Wow!
For our main course I had the tuna set and oh did I enjoy it. The tuna was very lightly seared and almost melted in your mouth. The taste was fresh, sweet and delicious. After my first mouthful I had my partner taste it as I was sooo blown away. The set includes many dishes on a tray and everything was a delightful taste experience. There was a small bowl of rice, another bowl contained a steamed vegetable that was served cold with a lovely dressing/sauce on it. And other bowl contained an assortment of pickles. They were brightly coloured with an interesting taste that went well with the rest of the meal.
My partner had the assorted set which included chicken and prawns. Again the set came with the same assortment of little bowls of goodness.
We left the restaurant absolutely stuffed and the biggest smiles on our faces. Our server was excellent and patient as many of the dishes were new to us. The entire place was spotlessly clean including the washroom.
This was an absolutely fabulous experience which we will definitely repeat when we are next in Victoria!
