Good Japanese home cooking by a Japanese family. Sushi was good. Tempura was ok. Sunomono had good flavour and miso soup was weak. Prices are good. Service was a bit slow but ok because it was a full house at the time. The only complaint is that daikon oroshi did not come with the grilled salmon. Food was served on western dinner plates with odd garnishes such as thinly sliced red onions, parsley. Garnishes are not needed if served on small Japanese style plates. But that’s not important since it’s home style cooking. All tables are in Japanese rooms where shoes need to be removed before entering. Popular style in the 70s, 80s.

My all time favourite! Unlike the new age versions, which are expensive and more for the look. Kappa is a very traditional Japanese Restaurant run by Japanese. Their food tasted the same as the food I had as a child.

Little family owned restaurant in White Rock. Only opened 3 days/week. Definitely need reservations. Delicious food. Everyone of the dishes we ordered was so good. The sushi and sashimi was very fresh. Very reasonably priced. Will definitely come here again.

Family style Japanese restaurant which reminded me the small bistros in Japan when we travelled there. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, if you are looking for something fancy, you can pass it, but if you like authentic family style food, it’s the right spot.
The sashimi is very fresh, the teriyaki series are well seasoned and served hot. The service is superb, all staff are kind and considerable. Will definitely come back again

Quaint family run Japanese restaurant. Enjoyed our dinner the traditional way in a tatami room. Service was awesome and the food was delicious.

One of the best place for sushi with a good price range. Fish was fresh and the service was wonderful with great selection of menu. My favorites were the Aburi set, along with the Shabu Soup and Prawns Tempura. The restaurant is always booked. Best to make reservations way in advance or show up right before they open.

What an amazing experience. The out side does not accurately depict what you will get inside. If you live in South Surrey or White Rock call them up and make a reservation. The service is great just a little slow, but food this good takes time so just relax and enjoy the time with family and friends. We didn’t have a bad dish. Some of the best tempura I have had anywhere in Metro Vancouver.

If you’ve been to White Rock and have never had Kappa, you are truly missing out. Quality food made by the sweetest Japanese couple. I’ve been eating here for over 10 years and it never disappoints. My favourite sushi in all of metro Vancouver. My favourites: dynamite roll, lotus root tempura, sunomono, flounder fringe and tamago nigiri. We have never ordered Kappa and not gotten the tamago, it is THE best. The operating hours are Thursday to Saturday, dinner only – make sure to plan ahead!

Overall, the food was quite fresh, but the prices were on the higher side. For this price point, the flavors weren’t particularly outstanding. Personally, I found the tempura to be the most enjoyable dish.

If someone asks me how good Kappa is, I would simply tell them that it is better than Taka.

The taste, the service, and the environment is GREAT. There is really nothing I can complain about.

However, this is a family ran restaurant, and the owners are getting aged. They now only open 3 days a week. I can still remember the days they open 4-5 days a week.

Also the food here is normally a bit pricy. Two people can easily spend 100$ here, so if you are looking for cheap sushi, then this is not the place you want to go. But if you are looking for high quality aburi/nigini sushi, then you should definitely come here.

The restaurant has been opened for over 35 years in White Rock, BC, and I would say it is one of the best sushi restaurants in lower mainland.

Wish the owners stay healthy.
