I ordered takeout from Kapitan and it was so delicious (again)! The dishes were so tasty and the meat was nice and tender. What I love is that some of their meat is halal! I’ve eaten here before and it never stops to impress me. My favorite dishes are the tomato rice platter and drunken noodles. I would definitely order/eat here again!

Some really good food here and many of these dishes are hard to find in Chicago. The service has always been good. Don’t come here for the ambiance necessarily—it’s a little cavernous and simple—but it’s a large space and seems great for groups.

I will definitely be returning to Kapitan! Their menu is large and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The stand out items were the Lobak and Nyonya Curry Laksa Lemak. We asked for recommendations, which was the right move because everything was spot on and it was going to be hard to decide what to order!

When you’ve lived in Malaysia and Singapore and crave authentic flavours where does one go in Chicago? That was our challenge until we discovered Kapitan. Biting into the kaya toast took us back to the coffee shops in a Malaysia. The roti dipped into the flavour curry reminded me of the lunches I had while working abroad. And the rendang and char kway teow are comfort foods that just brings us back to Asia. We had the opportunity to speak with the owner, who was a real delight.

Good Malaysian food. Eveything we ordered were really very nice. Crab fried rice was the best.. Must try. It was a very slow weekday, so hardly anyone was there at the restaurant.

Came here on Friday night. Very spacious and clean, nice deco inside. It may be missed due to yellow bright sign. We got seated right away. All the food we ordered were delicious. Quicks service and attentive waiter/waitress. One suggestion, it may be helpful to have clearer sign outside so passerby can see and know this is a restaurant. Would recommend to anyone in Chi-town 🙂

We loved our nasi lemak rendang lamb and nasi lemak curry chicken kapitan. The satay is absolutely delicious! Teh Tarik to finish off lovely meal. Will be back when back in Chicago! So happy to hear that they ship out! Going to place an order for family back in Tennessee. Sorry we started to eat before I took the pictures. Smell was too yummy..

We drive by this restaurant all the time not realizing it was even a restaurant as the location has historically been a bar. A neighbor recommended it and we’re usually skeptical to try new places, but this did not disappoint! We ordered the Lobak (fried pork) to start and that was very flavorful. We ordered 3 entrees to share between two of us for variety – the Nyonya Curry Laksa Lemak, Mee Goreng, and the Soft Shell Crab Fried Rice. It was all good, but the SoftShell Crab Fried Rice stood out the most for us. It was not your typical salty soy sauce fried rice. In addition to the soft shell crab, there was crab meat mixed into the fried rice. Would definitely recommend this place. We’ll be back with friends to try more of the menu.
