Kapa Hale is the real deal. The food is ridiculously good, inventive, local, and made with heart. We’re visiting from Scottsdale, AZ, and honestly, there’s not a single restaurant back home that could hang with this place.

Friendly, down-to-earth staff. True chef-driven, farm-to-table cooking that’s all about flavor and freshness. The vibe is super casual, not fancy at all, but don’t let that fool you. Once the food hits the table, it’s next-level.

If you’re in Honolulu and love great food, do not miss this spot.

We came for lunch during a dreary rainy day. It was a perfect shelter – warm and friendly service, delicious food, and a relaxed ambiance. Lunch portions are generous, you can easily share dishes unless you’re a big eater. I recommend making reservations. There is a small parking lot fronting the restaurant which shares the location with the Olive Tree Cafe, or a short walking distance from Kahala Mall.

Ate here with a party of 9, great to come with a big party to try more items on the menu everything was fantastic, would recommend the Brussels, Sunchovies, and lilikoi honey cornbread. For mains we had the pork chop, risotto, and tagliatelle, all were fantastic too.

At the end the chef came to chat and was super friendly. Very accomplished and had previously served in SF and NYC. Amazing service and vibes. Would love to come again!

Great place to dine! It was a little loud in the main room indoors and hard to hear each other, the could use some sound tempering in the main room.
The dishes were inventive and tasty, def flavor forward but nice service too.
The lei salad and the chicken were really fantastic

I was very impressed with this restaurant. I love the fusion of flavors and creative style that inspires every dish. I also like how the menu puts vegetarian options front and center, even though I’m not a vegetarian. It was fun to choose a few dishes and share them with my family. The desserts were exceptional. I hope to return soon!

Incredible food and service.

Took my girlfriend here for a fun date night and this place did not let us down.

Their vegetarian menu was so delicious and the only at the restaurant that didn’t blow my mind away was the free water.

Staff was so welcoming and catering to our questions.

Excellent time and will be returning very soon.

I’ve been here twice within 6 months, both for dinner. It’s Asian-European ish fusion in my opinion…all in all was okay. For the price, once to try it was good enough for me. Lol
Most of the dishes are good and they have a good alcohol selection. Overall experience both times were good, but not memorable.
Service was on point and there is no pressure to leave after 2 hours are up…the atmosphere made it very comfortable for the group of us to chat and relax.
We got a few happy hour items (5pm to 6pm) such as the lechon kawali, roaster garlic noodles, and a ‘call me old fashioned’ cocktail. Both dishes was alright, the cocktails was good.
My main was decent, I had the seafood laksa risotto. The scallops were cooked perfect, but i didnt care for the shrimps and clams. For such an expense dish, i wish they would remove the shells from the shrimp and loosen the clams from the shells. It’s a bit of a work. The laksa style risotto was good. My friends got the bolognese dish…that one was better. I think the tempura eggplant was the best dish of everything I tried.
I heard the brunch or breakfast was good…would be interested to try it.

This unassuming gem in Kahala is a must. No real frills regarding the aesthetic of the restaurant, but the food and drink menu more than made up for it. The steak tartare was a new and unique take on a classic dish and it didn’t disappoint. The smoked ahi dip was outstanding. I had the steak. It was seasoned and cooked to perfection over a bed on long beans that were sautéed perfectly. My friend had the seafood risotto. I got jealous the second it hit the table. All sorts of different seafood like clams, perfectly seared scallops, and huge shrimp all piled on top of an amazing portion of risotto. Their old fashioned menu was diverse and revolutionary. Highly recommend the brown butter old fashioned. Sadly we didn’t have room for dessert. Will definitely be back.

Kapa Hale truly captures the spirit of the holidays with Chef Keaka Lee’s thoughtfully curated holiday tasting menu. This is an experience that was both comforting and elevated from start to finish.

The evening began with a trio of appetizers that set the tone beautifully: a refreshing gazpacho, perfectly crisp arancini, and a rich, flavorful croquette. Each bite showcasing balance and finesse. The Haku Lei Po‘o, overflowing with fresh island-grown produce, was as vibrant and beautiful as it was delicious, a true celebration of Hawai‘i on a plate.

For entrées, the KH Beef Lū‘au was the standout: tender braised beef paired with bright lomi lomi tomato and fluffy couscous, delivering deep, soulful flavors with a modern touch. We also couldn’t resist “You Chick’N Me Out,” a roasted chicken inspired by classic huli huli preparation. It was juicy, aromatic, and incredibly satisfying.

Dessert was the perfect finale. The holiday special Foster pot de crème was luxuriously smooth and indulgent, while the gingerbread crème brûlée brought warm spice and festive flair with a perfectly crackled top.

Chef Keaka Lee and the Kapa Hale team have created a holiday menu that feels both nostalgic and innovative. From start to finish, it’s a dining experience filled with heart, intention, and exceptional flavor. I am already looking forward to my next visit. ✨

Beautifully prepared and delicious dishes showcasing island cuisine, local vegetables and meats from Hawai`i farms, and seafood from our surrounding ocean. Chef-owner Keaka Lee was born and raised in Honolulu and trained at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific KCC and also in top NYC restaurants. He is always present and comes out to greet every table once or twice during the meal. We have tried many of the appetizers, entrées, and desserts and love it all. I especially enjoy the Haku Lei Po`o salad as a complement to the seafood, meat, pasta, or vegetarian dishes. We ate family-style last night and enjoyed it as much as our previous dinner when we ordered individually. There is weekend brunch, an amazing lunch menu (I love the arancini appetizer on the lunch menu and special order for a dinner party), and a happy hour menu with a range of small dishes. Very happy to have Kapa Hale in the neighborhood.
