I’m particular about Japanese restaurants, but this one hits home. Very fresh sushi. Nigiri’s are wonderful. Thick sliced and tasteful. The spicy miso ramen is one of my favorites. Will visit again!

Been to Kanpai 100 times and every time it’s special. The freshest fish flown in from all over the world just melts in your mouth. Japan, Canada, Scotland just to name a few. Peter has been and always will be THE GOAT when it comes to recommendations. His taste is impeccable and the chefs don’t miss. Also they’re open til 1 AM. Get here and be clear that it will make your life better.

An incredible sushi experience!!! I must mention that I eat sushi frequently and try to explore new sushi restaurants everywhere I travel to, so I’ve had a good share of sushi pretty much all over the world including Japan, but what these guys make in this small restaurant with a very simple decor is amazing!!! Everything that our server Peter (I hope I recall the name correctly) recommended was off the charts and I loved the presentation and the story of every dish! I cannot wait to go back to LA and definitely visit this place again! I highly recommend it!!

I placed a pickup order for two Spicy Tuna Rolls and instead received hand rolls—despite clearly selecting “ROLL” on the menu. The restaurant’s own website shows photos of cut rolls, so it was obvious what I was expecting.
When I called to resolve the issue, they refused to fix their mistake. Instead of apologizing or offering to send the correct items, they told me to walk back to the restaurant in the hot sun to return the food—even though the error was on their end. They didn’t offer to deliver the correct order or take any responsibility.
They were apparently okay with losing a long-time customer over a $25 refund. I’ve been visiting this restaurant for over 5 years, and this was incredibly disappointing.
To make matters worse, when I contacted their delivery platform (Dylish), the restaurant falsely claimed I received what I paid for—even though I have clear screenshots proving otherwise. The entire situation was handled unprofessionally, and no one seemed to care that I was sent the wrong order.
Terrible customer service and zero accountability. I won’t be returning, and I recommend others order elsewhere.

The food is superb. The chefs are artists. The staff goes over and above. I visit the restaurant in person every few months and order take out every week. They are so kind and often do small substitutions if requested. People drive from all over LA to visit this Kanpai, but locals in the neighborhood are regulars to this staple establishment. I gave one less star for atmosphere because for some reason the restaurant installed a TV, which diminishes the fine dining atmosphere of this pricey restaurant. It is a perfect date night spot, but a sports bar it is not—thank goodness.
