My favorite sushi spot in town. Sean and his wife are incredible humans and are making the best sushi in town. All of their dishes are made with care, love and intention. I won’t go anywhere else in town. Remember that it is BYOB. You can’t go wrong with any of the menu choices. But the omakase is truly something special

If you live in Charleston long enough, you know that good sushi is hard to come by. There is no better place for sushi in the Charleston area. I have been dining at and ordering sushi (pick-up) from Kanpai regularly for five years now. I am only sharing this secret as I am leaving the area and no longer need to gatekeep this wonder of the area. Here are the simple rule to enjoy the best experience in my opinion: For dine in, go early on weekend or any time tuesday or wednesday evening, order from your table via QR code (it is typically run by the chef and his wife, so BE KIND), bring a bottle of wine (from Monarch duh), enjoy edamame and many many sushi rolls, they will bring them as they are ready. For take out, send a text with your name and order as soon as early as you can, it usually takes about 45-50 minutes. Here is my staple order for 2 people (yes, 2!): tuna blossom, salmon blossom, kanpai crunch (x2), tuna lime, salmon lemon. TUES and WED are the best days! Enjoy my best kept chucktown secret. ALSO, Chef Sean Park’s cheesecake is amazing!!

I’ve been to many sushi restaurants in Mt. Pleasant but Kanpai exceeds all expectations. The nigiri brings me back to my time in Japan. The Chef is extremely talented and friendly. I went for my 25th birthday last week and my fiancé and I are going again tonight for Valentines. We just can’t wait to have more.

Had an excellent experience at Kanpai Kanpai Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar. The sushi was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. You can really taste the quality of the fish, and the rolls were creative without being overdone.
Service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere made it a great spot to relax and enjoy the meal. Definitely one of my favorite places for sushi in the area — highly recommend!

My partner and I were in town for a couple weeks for her work, and this was easily our favorite restaurant that we found during the stay. (It was so nice that we went twice!)
Overall, some of the best sushi I’ve had in awhile—and we were able to get uni on one night!—but the appetizers were great as well. Be advised it’s BYOB.
We’ll definitely be back any time we’re in Charleston!

Been coming to Sean’s for probably 6 years now, by far my favorite sushi in Charleston! The sashimi and carpaccio is so so fresh and they use such quality ingredients. Just an incredible husband and wife team!

Went with my wife for our anniversary. The food is expensive compared to other similar places, but it is by far the best Asian food I’ve had in a long time. You really get what you pay for. It was all delicious, from the appetisers to the entrees. My only regret is not being able to eat more. Again yes it is expensive, but I eagerly await the next time we go.

Do NOT come here. The food is incredibly mediocre and the service is horrible (not the woman, she is sweet) but Chef sucks. This restaurant does not come to take your order, insists you do it online (even when you’re the only patrons there), and then ADDS 20+ to their own tip? My bill was $61 dollars and my bank statement now reads $91, and I definitely would not have tipped $30 considering their sushi was awful and horribly portioned. Save your money and your time.

The person answering the phone is so rude. I called and he told me to text. I then texted my order, and he told me to Venmo him which I thought was strange. I agreed but tried to make a modification of my order. I followed up via text several times because he told me only to text him. He then calls 20 minutes later and yells at me for not calling. I unfortunately will not be able to even try this food because this is an unacceptable way to treat a customer.
