Cannot say enough good things about Kanpai. Specifically the omakase, absolutely worth it to let the chef take you in his arms and deliver you the best sushi in Bend. The flavor concoctions that they curate for the omakase are always unimaginably delicious. Drooling sitting here writing this review. Besides the overwhelmingly delicious food, the staff and ambience is just as good. Kanpai is a quaint neighborhood sushi joint, which I would highly recommend reservations for, especially for omakase. Staff is always so kind, fun, and attentive. Highly recommend.

These are probably the most average rolls I’ve had. Came from a recommendation from a friend, but it was a let down since this place seems overrated. Service was average, and our server seemed uncomfortable, though was knowledgeable of the menu and answered our questions. Two sauces were out, so many rolls were not available. It could be an off night, but it seems like this restaurant still needs to perfect their sauces. Most rolls were bland, though the cilantro sauce was flavorful. For the price, the quality was not fulfilled. Left promptly after eating and visited a different local sushi bar.

Large creative selection of items to please everyone. The specials are always worth trying too. Servers are alway attentive, pleasant and helpful.

A great spot for sushi nestled on Bends Westside. Fresh fish and great tastes that have a local flair. Three food was great with above average service. Pricing was as expected for quality of ingredients. Cocktails were prepared with fresh ingredients. Atmosphere is mildly upscale and well behaved family friendly. Parking is kinda challenging at times. Reservations recommended.

My boyfriend and I celebrated our 5-year anniversary with the Kanpai Omakase. We both were absolutely floored by how amazing it is and are definitely coming back to experience it again (no special occasion needed!). Every course was great, even the ones we had both been hesitant to try beforehand. We made a reservation ahead of time and were seated on-time and promptly. Service was amazing and the Harry Nillson and Prickly Lady cocktails were well balanced. So excited to come back and recommend the experience to anyone and everyone.

Can’t really rate this place because we left before we got seated. We asked for a table for three and were not offered outdoor seating even though it was open. You can’t wait inside or even go inside until you’re seated so we waited at a table on the patio. Then another group came up and were immediately seated at the table we were sitting at and we were asked to move. Very rude hostess. I’ll never go back. If you go, kindly wait in the bushes until they decide whether you are worthy of their fine establishment.

The sushi is good. The ramen is just okay. The whiskey is overpriced. First time going to a sushi restaurant in Bend and I will say I had an enjoyable experience. The service is great and I really enjoyed the overall experience but I would recommend sticking to the sake and the beer and the sushi. I really enjoyed the vegetarian options on the sushi menu. The Godzilla roll especially was popular with the vegetarians at the table. I was also impressed by the Harley David-san (great name ) roll. I really wasn’t sure about the nuts in the roll but I actually really liked it. There are really some interesting rolls on the menu. The presentation on the Caterpillar though! Top notch! Overall I had a great time here and I would come back.

I’ve always been a fan of Kanpai. Last night I went there with my gal for the Omakase and our minds were blown. Easily the best sushi meal I have ever had in my life, and I’ve eaten at some of the best sushi restaurants on the West Coast. Luke, the chef, delivered 8 top notch dishes with each one being nothing but spectacular. I have eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants in my life and the fact this place is a couple blocks from where I live is insane. Let him do what he does and deliver a meal that you will be thinking about for a long time.

Our small family of three just celebrated an 18th birthday at Kanpai for a kid who had the good fortune of eating there for the first time as a toddler. It was our first time dining in since the pandemic and it was just as we remembered: low-key atmosphere, excellent service and incredibly creative and delicious food. We celebrated a few special occasions during the pandemic with takeout—which was amazing—but enjoying the atmosphere again brought back many good memories for our family. Kanpai is still a haven for locals who love exceptional food without pretense.
