Disappointing sushi place.

Went here for Valentine’s Day, and got seated promptly. Ordered a sushi sashimi platter for 2; one of their pricier options. Waiter forgot my beer until after we finished our appetizer, which was a solid 20 minutes after order. The main platter took quite a while to come out; at least 30 minutes between when we finished the appetizer and the actual food, which was pretty ridiculous.

The platter included a “chef chosen sushi roll”. Very disappointingly, it was a California Roll. The most expensive platter on their menu, and their “chef” chooses a California Roll?

The sashimi cuts were some of the smallest I’ve ever seen.

This place really has a Michelin star? lmfao

Great spot for sushi! Family had a great time with the nakaochi. Manager was so friendly and accommodating. Would come back again!

Selection, atmosphere and overall standard of service. The execution was excellent, specially in timing the presentation of the order of sashimi and sushi as well as cooked dishes. The Gen Zers amongst us were impressed too. Well done. Will be back.

Walked in here on a Sunday afternoon for dinner and was seated right away.

The sushi was overall pretty good. We got the sushi special and sashimi special. It is kind of on the pricey side but overall the price isn’t too bad given the quality of fish.

One thing that takes away one star from atmosphere is that it was quite warm inside the restaurant and the temperature outside was 90s at the time.

A friend and I split a platter for 2, I don’t remember which. I thought it was the perfect sushi binge destination. The service was welcoming and gracious while we stayed past closing time. The proximity to village east by Angelika is a huge plus! It was the perfect thing to do after a studio Ghibli movie.

Kanoyama is an absolute gem in NYC! The sushi is incredibly fresh, expertly prepared, and bursting with flavor. The omakase experience was top-notch, with each piece of sushi carefully crafted and presented beautifully. The atmosphere is cozy and authentic, making it a perfect spot for both casual dining and special occasions. The service was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. If you’re a sushi lover, this place is a must-visit! Can’t wait to come back again.

Chef Nobu has kept things interesting with his menu throughout the years, and we have never been disappointed over many meals from casual to quiet celebrations. One of our go to spots for honest Japanese and still one of the most enjoyable omakase experiences in NYC. Maybe the Sushi Special will lure you back often enough to catch a seasonal special you can tell stories about years later.

Best sushi I’ve had to date. Came at opening, first people in. Ordered the sushi deluxe, and was served art on a platter. Every bite’s profile felt delicately planned and beautifully executed. The restaurant itself has a sorta laid back feel for the type of food it serves. No frills, and not trying to be anything else. That only added to the experience. Will be coming back to try the omakase!!!

Excellent quality sashimi and great selection of appetisers! Black cod was so delicious and perfectly cooked as the fish just flakes . Corn tempora was crunchy and sweet.

I don’t remember when is the last time I gave such a grade, if ever, but this time was too much.

We ordered take out, they said 30 min, I came over on time and waited 30 min for the food. It is ok to miss by a few min, especially on a busy Saturday night, but not by this long.

I should say the food was very good, the stuff was extra busy, but still, the management should have extra stuff on a busy day or say up front it will take an hour.
