Despite the grungy look, the food is really good. We shared a Pork lau Lau plate with rice and squid Luau.

This place is a MUST when you come to the Big Island. Amazing traditional Hawaiian food. The food is fresh and tasty (and very different) and ‘Awa (kava) drink is a unique experience. Had to go there twice to drink ‘Awa again and try other plates because we loved it. It’s a very different taste and you have to be open to try it.

Such wonderful company at this cafe! Don’t miss out on the squid luau – it was mindblowing. And of course their kava. The people I met were so incredible friendly and welcoming, nice surprise too to bump into someone from my region of the world. A must do when you’re in Kona!

Had the Kalua pork plate (pork shoulder slow cooked in Hawai’ian sea salt) w uala, purple sweet potato, and squid luau (squid & octopus strewed in taro and coconut milk.) All was tasty. The pork, unsurprisingly, was salty, the squid luau was sweet, and the purple sweet potato tasted good and was a beautiful color.

Delicious kava bowls and noni shots. Relaxed cozy environment with fantastic food, but you gotta get the food before they run out for the day! 10/10

This place was unexpectedly one of my favorite spots on the Big Island. We got back late after driving across the island looking for something to eat when we saw the sign for Hawaiian food on the street. Stumbled on this place and we were immersed into the very interesting world of kava! The staff were so friendly and gave us a great explanation of everything. We couldn’t help but to have 2 bowls of kava (it is such a unique thing to drink). The food was the best Hawaiian food we had on the entire trip (I believe we ordered the Lau Lau plate). This is a must-do, but make sure to open yourself up to the entire experience. We had great conversation with other people who frequent this place and learned a lot.
