My family and I enjoyed dinner there last night. Service on point, food plentiful and full of flavor and you choose the spice: serving sizes were perfect to eat alone or sharing e and we did have leftovers. Great casual atmosphere

Filled with delicious food…
I went for lunch with friends at this Indian eatery. There were several sitting options, and the interior design and atmosphere were excellent. The staffs were very polite and helpful in selecting food. Additionally, you can ask them to adjust the amount of spiciness based on your tolerance. The waiting time wasn’t particularly lengthy. The food (or beverage) exactly meets its description. Each dish we ordered was prepared with fresh ingredients and had a unique flavor with a well-balanced blend of spices. Also, the presentation of the dishes was too lovely to be a visual feast.
The items we tasted were as follows:
Beverage- Mango Lassi, Green & Spicy, Imli Tango, Beer
Appetizer- Samosa
House Dishes- Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Tikka Platter (Salad, Soup, Basmati rice, Naan Bread)
Classic- Chicken Biriyani (Naan Bread)
Accompaniment- Papadum, Mango Chutney
Our overall experience was very good.

So, I can be a little dense when it comes to most things—Indian food ESPECIALLY. Nevertheless, in terms of my taste buds, the food was DELICIOUS, the atmosphere, ENCHANTING, and, of course, the service, second in Charlottesville to NONE!

To be honest, not really sure what I ordered for food. Just went with whatever KAT recommended. She put me on some sort of VEGETARIAN dish! I do like to think of myself as experimentally inclined but this was certainly OUT there for me.

Oh boy, am I glad I listened! That cheese curd thing I scarfed down with the NAAN and that RICE was truly some life changing stuff, man. So GOOD! Honestly, I may give the whole vegetarian thing a try in the future, who knows.

What I do know is the THREE cocktails that I washed my meal down with were SPECTACULAR! Don’t remember their menu specific names, but those were for sure some TASTY drinks, ESPECIALLY that mai tai variation…

DEFINITELY check this place out, I know I will be coming back for more!

My husband and I finally had the opportunity to try this place the other day. We were very impressed by the interior, which was cool and modern along with the appetizer they gave us. They had a nice little wine selection, including a really good Portuguese sparkling wine! We ended up getting two different curries that we’d never tried before, but both were absolutely delicious. The portions were very generous. The servers were very attentive, overall, will definitely be back.

Kanak Indian Kitchen did not disappoint. We have had great Indian food in Miami, DC, and elsewhere. Who knew Charlottesville, VA had the best. We will be making this a regular in our stops when coming through town. If the food wasn’t satisfying enough, Meghan was an absolute delight who went above and beyond to take amazing care of us. Ask for her! Thank you Meghan!

Ok firstly the service was great, our server was so friendly patient and very informative her name is Jennifer she helped us through the menu. This was my first time experiencing Indian cuisine and let me tell you, the food was the best that I have ever tried. I never had food that had so much flavor and a different taste and it all compliments each other so well. The restaurant was so nice and clean and the service was fast.

Kanak provide the perfect location for today’s lunch meeting (13 hungry men). Our waitress made great entree suggestions and the food was excellent! Our waitress could not have done a better job of taking care of our extended table. We’ll be back!

Enjoyed a quiet lunch with my husband and a table full of naan, samosas, butter chicken, and other delicious dishes. It was his first time trying Indian food and he was very impressed—we’ll definitely be back. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, not loud or crowded, and the waitresses were attentive and friendly. Great food and a wonderful experience overall.

I just got home with to my food. First time trying this place. Off the bat, I’d ordered a mango lassi and it wasn’t in the bag. I got the daal saag with chicken and the yellow lentils, both medium spice. If this is medium, I wince to see what mild is— quite possibly tasteless. I’m actual quite upset I spent what I did on this food. The basmati is yellow but falls flat- no flavor at all. I’m from Richmond and maybe my standards are high, but this is the least flavorful Indian I’ve ever experienced.

Update post meal: I don’t think I’ve ever thrown out Indian leftovers before :/

Love love LOVE this place. It rivals the best Indian restaurants we’ve eaten at around the world (never in India though). Very classy restaurant, and the food is top notch!
The naan is absolutely delicious. I usually order korma and/or shrimp appetizer and cauliflower appetizer. Our excellent waiter recommended a new appetizer to try, which we loved. We were too stuffed for dessert, but this is one of the few Indian restaurants where the dessert actually tempted me. It was our first time to sit inside the restaurant since covid and they nicely spread out all the customers. Sorry to say, but the other Indian restaurants in town can’t hold a candle to Kanak!
