I’ve been coming to this place since I was a kid — I’m 31 now and still just as in love with it as ever. We even stopped by recently with the family right before a snowstorm, and it reminded me why this spot has always been special.
It’s a family business, and you can feel it. The owners and employees are super friendly, welcoming, and consistent. I first came here when I was 6 years old, and 25 years later, the flavor still impresses just as much.
That kind of consistency over decades is rare. A true classic that never disappoints.

Amazing food! Among all the takeout options in Stamford, Kampei stands out as one of the best, if not the best. I can’t pick just one favorite dish because everything is consistently delicious, but I particularly love their Japanese bento boxes, sushi bar offerings, chow fun, and shredded duck. Whether you choose takeout or dine-in, the atmosphere and service are both excellent. Highly recommended!
I recently ordered the maki roll lunch special. I got the salmon and avocado roll and the shrimp and cucumber roll, along with miso soup. Everything was very fresh and delicious.

Kampei is a true gem! We went today for lunch and enjoyed a lovely meal.
They offer green tea and refill whenever empty (very yummie). Our lunch specials were all awesome, great deals!
The staff is extrem friendly and attentive.
Cute place, it’s very cozy and clean.
And the check comes with fortune comes which I love!
Thank you guys

Our favorite little cozy spot!
The food is always fresh and delicious.
The staff is always friendly and on top of things!
I almost didn’t want to give a review because I didn’t want others to find out about our favorite secret place. ❤️

I’ve been eating from this establishment for the past three years since living in Stamford. Normally, the food is good but today I had to submit a review. My food was less than appetizing, the rice was dry, the shrimp and garlic sauce was dry and just didn’t seem fresh as a whole. I didn’t realize until I got home and it was a total waste of money.

False advertising, order at your own risk. Their vegetable chow mein and I’m assuming all “chow mein” DOES NOT contain actual noodles. They said if you wanted actual noodles you need to order the ‘Lo mein’. I’ve eaten enough Chinese takeout to know what Chow Mein is. 1 star!

Prices going up and quality going down. I’ve eaten here for years but just can’t justify it anymore based on the price and lack of consistency. I used to eat here probably 2-3 a times a month. $10.25 for Gyoza? $8.25 for a California Roll??

One of the most disappointing meals we’ve ever had. We ordered carry-out, spent $90 for 2 special rolls, an appetizer platter, shrimp-fried rice and rock shrimp, so it was a pretty expensive take-out The food was really disappointing: eggrolls tasted like rancid oil, most of the items in the appetizer platter were burned, sushi rolls were pretty tasteless. This was never among my favorite places but decided to give it another try – after this though we are done with it.

The red snapper was tough and dry. The food was disappointing and unappetizing.

I am very picky when it comes to Chinese food. This food has been the best I’ve found so far in Stamford. I tried a few other hit spots and definitely prefer this restaurant over the rest. Looking forward to trying other dishes.
