A Food Review: Kamakani Kitchen
610 Attla Way, Suite 12
Kenai, AK 99611

I’ve never been to London, and I most certainly have never been to France. But when I go to Kamakani, I know I’m bringing my stretchy pants!

In Hawaiian, Kamakani means wind or breeze. It’s a name that evokes movement, nature, and that refreshing, invigorating feeling. This establishment, however, evokes one thing and one thing alone: Food Love.

Are you ready to stare a faceful of Choma directly in the plate? Only the brave should tread further. This isn’t to intimidate you—just know that these portion sizes are as big as a tsunami.

Operated by owner and chef Rhiannon Marie Kawaihi’ilani, this place is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced on the Kenai Peninsula.

So what should I order, Cory?
Well, if you want my honest opinion, the Bluefin Tuna Melt is a game changer. Huge chunks of freshly grilled tuna, pressed together in a cheesy, orchestrated symphony.

No, this isn’t Bumblebee Tuna . This is real tuna. We’re about to tuna your mind around in a minute.

How do you feel about Poke bowls? Well, you’d better be prepared for a Poke Mountain—food piled as high as Mauna Kea (Hawai’i’s tallest mountain). FACT DROP!

Between the succulent Hawaiian Mac Salad and the fresh, savory Musubi, there’s something for everyone at Kamakani. She even offers watermelon poke on the menu, in case raw fish makes your stomach do the Macarena.

Always watch for her weekly specials—because not all heroes wear capes. Your foodie mind will be blown beyond repair. So grab your kids, and grab your wife, and come get a plate that will change your life.

Overall ratings for Kamakani Kitchen:

Food: 9/10

Service: 9.5/10

Price: 8/10

Some of the special items are a little on the high end price-wise, but trust me—you’ll leave with seconds… maybe even thirds. Once you take a bite, you’ll come clawing back for more.

Just keep in mind, this is a one-woman operation. That ensures quality with every plate. But depending on how busy she is, wait times can be a little long.

Totally worth it, my crumblings. WORTH EVERY BITE. If you’ve never been here, I’m yelling at you with smiles: Get your cookies on down here!!

Catch you around the riverbend.

Mahalo!

With love and crumbs, ❤️

In an area with underwhelming food options it’s great to have this local gem. Kamakani would get 5 stars regardless of where it’s located. Authentic fresh tasting food that never lets us down. Our favorite place on the Peninsula.

Visiting from out of town and our first time at a poke shop as I don’t eat fish. Encouraging the kids to try something new, I put on my big girl pants and prepared to grimace through lunch. My husband asked me what are we doing here? You don’t like fish?!
Once we were warmly greeted and I mentioned it was our first time, the young person behind the counter had one question – anyone not like fish? My hand shot up, as did my very picky kids hand. My middle kid said they didnt want fish, and Watermelon Poke and Spam Masubi were suggested. Knowing that kid likes spam and sushi, I figured that was a safe bet. My older kid had the Pele Bowl and my husband had the special Blackened Halibut Cheeks.
The service was excellent and personalized even as a line grew behind us. The owner/chef brought my picky kid a bowl of watermelon when they weren’t a fan of the poke bowl. Normally, the smell of fish is enough to have my throat start to close and I turn around and leave a restaurant, but this place smells like clean ocean. That freshness was apparent in the food, my husband actually did a little happy dance while eating. Definitely keeping Kamakani Kitchen in mind when we’re in the area! Thank you again for such a wonderful experience ❤️

Believe the hype. Even with all the rave reviews, this place exceeded my expectations. I kept forgetting to catch them open and would always tell myself afterwards “how good could it be?” Tell you what: in future whenever I am in Kenai on Friday or Saturday I will eat there. Period. The end. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Yum!

Everything I’ve had has been wonderful here. I don’t eat out often but when I do I treat myself here. Staff is friendly, food is tasty, and the owner has a passion for what she does. There is a little bit of a wait time but it’s a small price to pay in my opinion.

Cannot recommend this establishment enough… their menu is very well balanced for the Hawaiian in us all…. the Musubi’s (Mooseubi’s) are the best we’ve eaten, and we go to the Islands yearly… they make the perfect snack for on-the-job or travel. Her Sriracha Mayo is delicious as well…. the Yellow Fin Melt is incomparable to anything on the peninsula… the daily Poke Bowls are equally amazing…. her use of local ingredients only adds to the flavor as well… seriously, if you haven’t gone get moving cause everything sells out fast and you definitely need to give it a shot!!!

Rhi is an amazing and creative chef who treats anyone who enters her business like family. She will always greet you with a smile and make you feel very comfortable. We are very lucky to have her in our community, so head over and support a locally owned small business!!!

Hands down the best poke I’ve ever had. Incredible flavor. Happy and uplifting environment. The owner is incredible, kind, and welcoming. We ordered the Halibut cheek spit salt poke and could hardly finish it due to the large serving size. Can’t recommend enough! We will be back to try the rest of her menu!

The owner-Rhi was so welcoming and attentive. We had our 1 year old daughter with us and she brought out a high chair and a little watermelon poke bowl for her free of charge.

This was hands down the best meal we had while in Kenai. We will definitely be back and sending family this way!
