I am shocked. I have been going to Calypso since I was about 15 and I’m 30 now. It used to be the best Jamaican food ever they used to have such good flavor, but now the oxtail is so fatty that I can’t even bite through it and the gravy is a slimy dog food like texture. It’s so disgusting. The slaw isn’t the same. the smell isn’t even the same. The flavor is really horrific and I am just so saddened that all of the Jamaican restaurants I grew up with in Buffalo have gone downhill. Before I even open the bag, I was like why does it smell different? It literally smells like dog food and when I tried it it the slimy nasty gravy. It’s just disgusting. I’m so sad that this is what calypso has come to.

Absolutely the worst thing I’ve ever ordered. The food as absolutely disgusting and I’m pretty sure the food was rotten. The chicken was so soft it basically became paste. The rice I’m pretty sure was rotten. I ordered the brown stew chicken and curry chicken and a beef patty. If me or my family get sick from this you will be hearing from a lawyer!! The rice literally smells rotten and stinks!! STAY AWAY TO PROTECT YOUR HEALTH!! It’s in the trash where it belongs!!!

I ordered the Curry Chicken with rice and fresh coleslaw for $5. I was pleasantly surprised at how yummy the food was. This place has been here for a long time, Surprised I haven’t stopped in sooner. I stopped in because I saw the sign offering curry chicken for $5. Also, the Jerk Chicken is perfect!
The food was a bit different than I expected, as I’m used to Indian curry chicken. This is the Jamaican version of that, minus any spice. Also, the chicken is with the bone in. That caught me by surprise, but not a deal breaker for yummy food. It’s very saucy without being messy. I will definitely stop back and order this again.

This place is very popular for Jamaican food. I ordered two meals, and each takeout container was loaded. Prices are very reasonable and service is great. Food is well worth trying.
Curry chicken- if your into sauce, then this is the entree for you. Chicken was tender and comes with a side of coleslaw and rice/beans. I would’ve like a little bit more curry flavor though.
Jerk- again another entree with a lot of sauce. For me I enjoy a dry rub jerk chicken. So this was my least favorite meal, but it was still ok.
Beef pie- If your familiar with Hispanic food, their Pastelillo is almost similar. The difference is, the Jamaican beef pies come in a thicker crust. Plus there both flavored differently. I would’ve enjoyed this beef pie more, if the cheese was melted.
Coleslaw- vinegar based and was amazing

One of my favorite Caribbean places for sure. Definitely try the jerk chicken, pork and pepper beef. The portion size is great and a complete value for money. The food is so delicious and tastes home cooked. Every time I visit Buffalo I always get food from here. A must try!

ive tried all the jamaican places in buffalo and this was the best by far!! the jerk chicken is to die for, the sauce is the best, just the right amount of spice and kick, without being too hot.. and the chicken falls off the bone its so tender. i always buy about 5 dinners so i can eat them through the week because its sooo delicious that i can never get enough. fair prices and nice sized portions, the plantains are tender and sweet. the jerk pork and pepper steak are also great, my friend orders the ox and loves it. we have never had any food from here that wasnt good- its all been great. the cakes are so delicious too! so soft and moist and flavorful! have been a customer for years and will be for the rest of my life as long as they are in business! the people who run it are always so lovely and nice.

This is my first time leaving a review for anywhere but I felt compelled to. As a Jamaican I was extremely disappointed in the quality of food I received from this establishment. The fried chicken lacked seasoning and tasted like it was cooked in old oil. Don’t even get me started on the flavorless Oxtail – y’all don’t trim the damn fat off? If this is how the chef cooks at home he shouldn’t be cooking in a restaurant. I never usually eat out from Jamaican restaurants because the food never taste good but their fried chicken is always ok but man was I disappointed. I guess the rave reviews are from Americans or mixed Caribbean background because there is no way a Jamaican would give this place 5 stars. Please revamp the food and cook with love… this wasn’t it. Wasted my $30 and I’m so hurt.

The food is very picturesque, vibrant in color, and tasty…i tried the Jamaican Pepper Steak..it came with a sweet coleslaw and two descent size plantains (most places serve small). The food portions are also very good.
