Kale is a great little Japanese restaurant and is a short walk from the Saturday Market. The food here is simple and very tasty. They have 4 curry options, I tried two and was very impressed.

Good Japanese style curry. Great portion, neither too less or to much.

This place is awesome! The service is great, and the food is delicious. The owner was very nice and asked about dietary restrictions right off the bat, and explained to us everything we needed to order. The atmosphere was really cool and there were a lot of seats available. Would go back again and again! Oh also you should try the melon soda it’s really good.

Oh this place is so so good, I’ve only ever gotten the Katsu Kalé Doria with Baked Chicken, and will probably get it often in the future. It feels like such comfort food, it’s really delicious. I liked mine with extra rice. Make sure to get the Japanese waffle ice creams for dessert, those are amazing as well. Make sure to visit this little hidden gem downtown.

The food was so delicious. For a place that really only serves curry, it makes sense because it’s the best curry I’ve ever had. You can tell it’s freshly made because it feels so hearty, smooth, and filling. The chef/owner was also amazing 🙂

Choose from 4 different variations of a Japanese curry meal. That’s all you get. Some people may be put off by this, but this is why they shine. These guys (I think the owner/chef is Japanese) focus on Japanese curry and that’s all they do, and so do it very well. They even remember to include the proper fukujinzuke pickled vegetables. This is typical of Japanese restaurants to only focus on one type of dish. It’s very authentic and very different from Thai or Indian curries if you have never had it, and is the least spicy of the curries. The staff are friendly and efficient. Prices are good. Seating is limited and decor is fitting and simple.

The BEST place for Japanese curry. Limited menu but the best food you can find anywhere. Quality has been maintained throughout the years. We’ve been going to this place for years and still can’t miss it while driving through Portland. The service is great – very kind, courteous, welcoming experience. Since they moved, the space is limited but they have made the most of the space with plenty of seating. There is parking right outside the restaurant, but there is also a paid lot across the street. It’s Portland so I don’t park more than half a block away and I’ve never had issues finding parking. It’s a MUST when in Portland!

My friend and I came here after a bad weekend and it cured us. We had it while looking out at the rain and the chef was so sweet. It was really delicious and you can’t miss out on the katsu on top. I felt bad because we have small stomachs and couldn’t finish it all, but it was so good we ordered some on Postmates today not even a week later from when we came in. Soooo yummy. Will be in frequently from now on !!!
