Sashimi was cut generously. Everything was nicely presented, I personally enjoyed their playing and the wasabi they used on the sashimi. I like this Sushi restaurant compared to the restaurants found in San Jose Japantown. Also love that they have so much great promotions such as lunch specials and happy hour. Was my first time here, definitely won’t be the last.

I ordered vegetarian and regular sushi for my mom and I for pick-up today. My mom has the miso soup, California roll, Lion King roll, spam musubi, jalapeno bombs, and I had the vegetarian “Potato Head.” My mom really enjoyed the rolls she had, and said the spam musubi, gyoza and miso soup were good, though not as delicious as the rolls. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the vegetarian roll was actually SO GOOD. Usually sushi places don’t put any effort into their veggie rolls, but this one was so delicious! You can see from my pic there’s so many ingredients layered in there; there’s also a yummy sauce on top. I’m so glad to find a place that’s actually inclusive of vegetarians, I will definitely be coming back to try their other veggie rolls!

Great budget-friendly AYCE sushi in San Jose!
Kakuna Sushi is always solid — I’ve already been three times. The Omakase Box with thick-cut sashimi, fresh uni, and scallop & roe rice is a must-order. Lobster Roll is amazing too. Fresh oysters, tasty grilled squid, and good appetizers overall.
Lots of parking, friendly staff, and perfect for casual group dinners!

Kakuna Sushi offers a great value for the price. The portions are generous, which is always a plus, especially if you’re looking to get the most out of your meal. That said, the quality of the sushi could be better—it’s not the most refined or fresh-tasting experience. However, given how affordable it is, I can’t complain too much. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly sushi spot with large portions, this place is worth a visit.

Terrible customer service: they forgot some items, they brought wrong item, the server warned my daughter about putting her cup on the menu, while it was a long menu occupying good amount of space on the table and it was already laminated so wouldn’t be damaged from water or food. At the end of the day, it’s a restaurant and that’s a menu with constant exposure to food and liquid!
Pros: large and good selection of food options, large indoor seating, easy parking

This location used to be sushi factory. it’s now Kakuna Sushi which has a few locations. They’re cheaper than a majority of the other similar type sushi restaurants, the quality of the sushi rolls are good, we came here for lunch which has a lunch special buy 3 specialty rolls get 4th free making the deal even better. They also have another lunch special choose 2 rolls from a limited list & miso soup for $11.99. Service was very efficient with the staff they had. They had one person seating and taking orders, while the other staff served food. For the limited staff they had they did a great job & it’s was pretty busy for lunch time. This place is worth a visit.

Some of the food is bland- the salad, potstickers, rice, and soup that come with the chicken katsu were quite tasteless. The drink and spider roll were good though.
Some of the food is good and good value, but service is bad and consistently slow.

Today we got some takeout of three specialty rolls and appetizer. Overall was really good quality, great size and overall it tasted really fresh. We definitely plan to go back, we frequently get the bentos but now we want to try more of their specialty rolls.
We’ve gone before and did the sit down dinner. That was at least 8 months ago and it was okay. We always ordered a dragon roll, but otherwise I can’t recall what we ordered. After that experience we considered this place mid to subpar. But after today really changed our perspective, it’s really elevated for sure.
We live close To this restaurant so we frequently get the dinner or lunch happy hour.
Great parking and interesting atmosphere, service is ok.

This store appears to be one of the branches of “Kakuna Sushi.”
One of my Facebook friends shared that this specific restaurant is their favorite, so I decided to drive 40 minutes to give it a try.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed.
I started with two of my favorite dishes—Spicy Tuna Roll and Nigiri Sushi Combo—to gauge the quality before ordering more.
The Spicy Tuna Roll was extremely dry (see photo), and while the Nigiri Sushi Combo was okay, the sushi rice wasn’t seasoned properly. My expectations were based on other Japanese restaurants in the SF Bay Area with similar price points, but even considering the price, the quality fell short.
Ultimately, I didn’t order anything else.

Great service, great food and portions. Chicken katsu is delicious. We’ve been here many many times. Both to dine in and for take out. It’s wonderful and our favorite spot for weekly family meals.
