Since I come from a French family, I’m largely unfamiliar with German food. I knew that I didn’t like rye bread, and I didn’t like sauerkraut, so I wasn’t expecting to like my meal here as much as I did. The schnitzel had a lovely buttered toast flavor, crispy with a subtle hint of lemon. The red cabbage was sweet and delicious, the beer cheese soup was fantastic, and the pretzel was what you would expect. The German mustard options surprised me and I enjoyed them immensely. If you’re in New Ulm for Oktoberfest or any other reason, this is a fantastic place to stop.

I was hoping for more. The service was great, the menu had enough variety, and the ambience was nice. The food was only mediocre. The sauerkraut was probably the best dish. Rays salad was also good. The German potatoes had no onion, too much cornstarch, and were too sweet without enough tang. I’m not sure what’s special about the ribs, they were somewhat dry, far from fall off the bone, and the sauce is something along the way of a canes sauce (mayo, ketchup, and some seasoning). The Kiev was over fried and burger was nothing special. This place could be so much more, but it’s all about the food—nowhere near as good as the German restaurants in the twin cities… oh and the bathrooms are in serious need of a remodel.

Amazing food, service and atmosphere!!
I asked for a yummy cocktail similar to an espresso martini, and Katie made me a white chocolate martini and it was DELICIOUS!!!! I wish they would add it to the menu. Seriously incredible. It was such a great experience overall, will be coming back when we come to New Ulm!

Old school place with great food. Good portions.
German specialties are delicious.
Great service. The hostess Cathy is the best!
Pro tips… upgrade to Ray’s salad & always get the sauerkraut. If sauerkraut soup is available…Get it! Might be the best soup I’ve ever tasted!!
Make sure you buy a bottle of the house rib sauce for home!

We stopped on our way home from a camping trip. Very good food and a chance to try German food. My husband loved the ribs and I got the beer battered cod which was also very yummy! The fries were very good, the fried green bean appetizer was super good, but I think my favorite was the spatzle (the gravy was very salty, but I liked that).
Very nice staff. They were kind even though they seemed a little tired and busy.

Staff was extremely kind! Highly recommend the smoked pork chop! The food was delicious and priced decently. Loved the modern but old retro feel. Huge shoutout to the cooks in the back on the speed of cooking and flavor!
