This is a typical mom and pop restaurant you can find in California. However, the taste and quality exceeds the standards. First of all, I think it is incredibly cute how they are making posts on social media everyday about their special menus and sushi — I can tell that they’ve really upgraded their ingredients and improved their customer service as servers continued to check on me and ensured that everything went well with my dinner. Thank you Kai for being amazing as always!

We found this place randomly searching for food. It’s such a cute space. We didn’t realize they had the bell to call for service(just like in Japan) until we finished eating. They were so present I didn’t even realize they had that. We went at 730-810pm on a Friday night. I spent 10-15 minutes just looking at the menu items because they had some interesting renames. I love their white sheet of information that lists the roll names and the ingredients(not sure if I was supposed to order with that sheet). The kids bento box portion was massive. I should have had both kids share 1 dish but one wanted sushi and the other wanted a bento box. The prices of hand rolls are great. My 7 year old barely finished a CA handroll(it was huge), my 5 year old barely made a dent in her delicious chicken teriyaki bento, and my husband ate more than half of full size chicken teriyaki bento. I got a UFO roll and was soooooo full. It was such a massive roll that could have been 2 lunches for me. The portions are huge in a bento box, sushi roll and kids bento. They gave us a free piece of salmon(fin or tail). It was delicious. My son asked for extra crumbles of tempura on his CA roll so it doesn’t normally look like what it does in my photo of his roll. The prices are good considering the portion size is the largest out of all the places in SD I have been to. It’s an easy place to bring the small kids to eat. Although there is no coloring pages to distract them, the food comes out super quick.

After driving past it many many times, we finally tried this restaurant. Great FILLING sushi rolls. The short rib appetizer was a plateful of tender tasty beef, the CT Tower was ENORMOUS (save room) and all the tuna / seaweed salad was fresh and flavorful, the sweet potato noodles on top tasted maybe a couple days old , though it’s something you can sweep off of the salad itself, it did add a good crunch element when you ate a bite of everything. Hidden under a mound of similarly almost-stale onion crunches was a roll whose name I forgot and now I’m mad cause I will probably order it again in spite of the crunchies. Drinks are canned, atmosphere is chill, parking is ample. Lots of families happily eating. Great service, everyone was super nice! Will be back

Always a favorite! Excellent food, outstanding service casual dining. The extensive menu has raw, cooked, fish, beef, chicken and veggie dishes sure to please everyone. Artfully presented a pleasure for the eye and the pallet.

Honestly some of the best sushi I have ever had. The Toro roll was amazing and stacked with tuna belly. I ordered a “chef’s choice” and he made me an incredible special roll in the photo. This place was absolutely amazing!

Kai Sushi is the best sushi place around! Sam is the head chef and is absolutely incredible. He always makes something special for us! The oysters are incredible. The noodle soup is off the chain! We had the Rainbow roll, Philadelphia roll, and Charger roll. We also had the chicken tempura plate and a really special seaweed cucumber type salad. Also buy two beers get sake for one cent

Great sushi place. Very fresh uni (sea urchin) and the ocean beach sushi roll with spicy scallop is amazing!!! At the bar table, I am able to watch the chef preparing the sushi first hand. It is awesome experience.
