Kafe Mamai is a fusion of African and Caribbean cuisine. My number one goal is healthy, halal ,comfort, nutritional food with an inviting heart to everyone I get a chance to serve.
Halal is key as it covers every aspect of the healthiest choice in what we put in our bodies.
I dedicate my desire and work ethics to women who raised me and particularly my grandmother for the strength , love , lessons and direction on what a human with humanity is . Lamu island on the coast of kenya is where I came from , but lucky enough I have had the pleasure to see the shores of Montego Bay , to the beaches of Culebra and Condado and have learned how incredible alike we are in our culture, experience, Cusine and mannerisms . Come share a moment with us.

We got viyazi vya kukanga, surf and turf, and green mango chicken curry. And to drink we ordered a cardamom tamarind juice. It was all delicious. The quality and flavors were unbeatable.
What’s more, the service was phenomenal. Also, the artwork here is stunning. We will 100% come back.

I loved the oxtail. The flavors complement the rice and beans wonderfully. My wife ordered the beef skewers. Flavors good but the beef was dry and over cooked. Mango curry and the surf and turf were both well loved by our party.
Gluten free options were nice!

Shout out to Kafe Mamai for dinner last night; our first time there. Sorry for the lack of photos. The menu is a Caribbean ‐African fusion.
Anyway, it was SO good. We had the jerk chicken, both the sandwich (pictured) and chicken entree, the Kenyan lentil stew, and the mango green chicken curry. We had the plantain as an appetizer and it was probably the best plantain ever. (We got the picture after everybody had eaten over 3/4 of it). The food was incredibly tasty and the portions were good-sized. I thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity.
The place was nice and the service was attentive without being overbearing. It’s an intimate, small, restaurant.
We highly recommend it.

I just tasted Kafe’ Mamai for the first time at a Boys and Girls Club event downtown tonight! I had the rice, jerk chicken, another kind of chicken, some and sweet plantains. These were so delicious! The rice comes with a great blend of spices and beans and hit the spot. The plantains were divine! We will definitely go check out their location!

My husband and I recently moved to downtown Salt Lake, so we’ve been trying out all the nearby restaurants and we are THRILLED to have discovered this place!
The staff were very kind and provided some great recommendations. We ordered the jerk chicken wings for an appetizer, and the surf and turf and tilapia dish as the main entrees. All dishes were an explosion of flavor — nothing I’ve ever tasted here in Utah! The chicken in the wings and surf & turf was incredible tender. Serving sizes were also very generous and we are so pleased to have leftovers. We can’t wait to come back and try everything on the menu!

I enjoyed an absolutely delicious dinner here aH. The server was very helpful in guiding me regarding my order. I ended up ordering the jerk chicken plate and it was in no uncertain terms some of the best food I have EVER had mA. And the cherry on top is this restaurant is Halal! The decor on the inside is beautiful as well. From top to bottom I highly recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Salt Lake. Firstly because they offer Halal food and it’s extremely delicious. Secondly, because it’s a unique cuisine that you can’t really find many places in Salt Lake. And finally, the owner is one of the nicest men I’ve ever met. I highly recommend trying the surf and turf platter and their jerk chicken sandwich. For dessert you can definitely not go wrong with some plantain ice cream.

Got the jerk chicken platter. The amount of food was substantial and the flavors were excellent. I don’t often eat African cuisine so I don’t really know how to compare it to others, but it was tasty. The only issue was it was a little too spicy for me, but I’m generally one who doesn’t like any spice and that’s just preference. Atmosphere and artwork in the place were awesome with plenty of dine in seating. The only bummer was the server asked if I wanted bone in or boneless chicken and I chose boneless. I was up charged $2 for this choice when nowhere on the menu or otherwise was it stated that boneless chicken costs extra. It’s only $2 but the principle of not disclosing when something costs extra really bugged me.

Hands down one of the BEST places I’ve been in awhile! The food here is on point! Our meat was savory, spiced, soft, fresh and just delicious! The salad was fresh tasting too. My wife and I tried some Jamaican drinks and one of the employees (I’m assuming owner) named Abu offered us some of his own home made drinks after over hearing us discussing the drink menu. They were delicious and the offer was so generous and made it even more fun to be here! Had a nice chat with Abu and it made the meal more of an experience and my wife and I really appreciated that! The restaurant has art all around and it really makes you look around and enjoy the place! The rest of the staff were super friendly and the whole place felt homely! This was my first time trying Jerk Chicken and I’m so happy it was here I got to experience it. We will be back soon! One of our favorites!

This was our first time at this restaurant and it was absolutely delicious!
So many interesting flavors. The veggies were cooked perfectly, the meat was tender and the portions were very generous! I love all of the artwork in the restaurant as well.
We’ll definitely be back to try more of the dishes.
