With purple being my favorite color, and ube being one of my favorite desserts (married to a filipino), this is a completely biased review.

But walking into those store made me so happy. Getting to choose between so many delicious deserts and drinks, playing the coin game with strangers, taking the perfect selfie and relishing that first excited sip… what a great time. It felt like like a welcoming club of other sweet lovers and I fit right in.

They warned me before buying the Vietnamese coffee 6 shots of espresso. Ube flan really good. Not too sweet either. Spent all day drinking my coffee cause I don’t wanna get too wired.

Kafé de Manila is a nice bright shop right on Main St, I love the purple color throughout the shop. The staff and owner are very kind and sweet, I appreciated the warm customer service, recommendations, and smiles. I ordered the iced ube float with no coffee or matcha, which is really good! It’s not very sweet, and that’s how I prefer most of my drinks. I will definitely be stopping by to order it again!

I also ordered the ube tres leche and the ube bread pudding. I still have yet to try the ube tres leche, but the bread pudding is delicious! When you order the bread pudding, they’ll normally add an additional crème brûlée brown sugar finish on the top, but I asked that they not add that to my piece. It’s the perfect sweetness for me as it is without the additional sugar. I was told that many people have not ordered the bread pudding yet, because it’s still a new item. But I’m here to tell you that it’s a must order!

I will definitely be back to get another iced ube and bread pudding, and try something new too!

Kathy, the owner makes everything from scratch, including their ice cream.

The iced Ube float with Matcha topped with Ube ice cream was phenomenal. Not overly sweet and perfection in a cup.

Her ube cookie was sublime. I can’t wait to come back.

Update 7/17/25: they moved from Raritan to Somerville. Still tastes delicious. Only 1 mini table and chairs but there is a window bench you can sit on.

The Ube Matcha with Ube Ice Cream was delicious!

UBe Heaven!!! The UBe Milk Tea with UBe Cold Foam was delicious! The Mango Shake was good too. The UBe Crinkle Cookies was so good and cakey. If you don’t see them on the shelf, ask if they have any more. Most likely they are cooling in the back. The Pandan dessert was good as well.

Great people and a great place to go to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Great place in the community to share the Filipino love for ube and coffee. I remember when the cafe was smaller and a different location; but the flavor has never changed. The owner & his family are the friendliest people and truly love what they do which shows in everything they’re serving. New location is clean and in a prime location so do not pass by and not try their ube flavored coffee and their delicious deserts. I’ve tried everything there so do not ask me which is my favorite bc I loved everything. Service was quick and handled w care. Again, if you haven’t tried it, GO. a must go in the Somerville area.

I loved their ube brownie. The taro and ube yam milk tea was really too sweet for us. You need to ask for menu recommendations and descriptions when trying new things. We learn this in hindsight.

Friendly staff. Good service.

I got the ube capuccino which certainly captured the ube taste but it was very sweet. My sister in law got the ube hot chocolate which she liked too but it was overly sweet as well. I wonder if they can make them not so sweet next time or maybe warn customers ahead of time.

Only two chairs and a bay window seating for waiting for your order otherwise there are no tables/chairs, but the place is cute and instagram worthy with plenty of unique drink options like calamsi and taho related drinks and desserts to try that you won’t find at other places. I’ll have to come back to try the other stuff!

Ube coming from a business with Filipino owners is absolutely the spot to spend your money! I have gone a few times and have had a few products and they’ve all been so amazing no complaints! It’s new so they’re still working on structure, but other than that it’s great. It’s also small so you can’t sit inside, but it’s great to take away and just enjoy. Best ube I have had in a while!
