Wow, this place is amazing. I love a little spot that has a few items on their menu that they do really well. We went here 3 times on our 6 day trip. We enjoyed their raw oysters, shrimp and grits, baked oysters, and roast lobster broth dish. All were perfection. After we were finishing up a boat taxi, we mentioned to the captain that we were going there, and he said as a local it’s the best spot on Homer. 10/10

I’d been wanting to try the Broken Oar Oyster Bar for a while, and it ended up being the biggest surprise of our trip! Beyond the fresh oysters, the entrées were absolutely incredible. The highlight was a rich, flavorful lobster broth with perfectly cooked seafood—one of the most delicious dishes I’ve ever had. Such a treat to find this level of food in Homer. Warm service, great atmosphere, and food that truly exceeded expectations. Can’t wait to come back!

A trip to Homer would NOT be complete without at least one meal at the Broken Oar (Kachemak Shellfish Growers)!! Great atmosphere, amazing food, wonderful stafff……the whole gamut. The Shrimp & Grits is currently the favourite for me AND my 5-year old grandson. The Creole is also great, and the Oysters…….WOW! I’ll be back!

We started with the peel & eat shrimp as an appetizer and it was nothing short of absolutely delicious. The shrimp is from prince William sound and some of the tastiest shrimp I’ve ever had. The Creole was also sooo tasty and came with shrimp scallops and clams, along with a scoop or rice and 2 slices of toast. The main star of the show was the oysters! We got half raw half baked and it was soooo yummy. We also enjoyed the crème brulee as a desert. We finished absolutely everything. I’d recommend this place a thousand times over to everyone. Did I mention how amazing the staff is? We’ll definitely be back 🙂

Perfect for a quick, casual bite or a romantic dinner. Everything I’ve eaten has been complex, flavorful, and delicious. The fresh oysters are perfect every time!
Update – Came back because I couldn’t stop thinking about the crab cakes, baked oysters, and raw oysters. Perfect spot to grab a beer, a snack a,nd sit in the sun!

Absolutely amazing seafood and beer with a great view of the water. The baked oysters are a must and the Creole is delicious. The pan roast is good too but a bit too citrusy for my taste.
It did get really crowded by the time we left around dinner time so be sure to come early.

We come to Homer every year, more, if we are lucky, which we been the last few years. Ryan and his crew always make us feel welcome. I mention Ryan because we have had him serve us over the years (sorry to the rest of the crew, you have always been great too). They always accommodate us coming in, even when they’re busy. Also Kachemak is open when other places are not. The food is fresh, the view is insane & the service is always kind and welcoming. We travel all over for work, and we are big foodies. Homer is not a big town, but the food here is worth the visit. Thank you!

Server was extremely rude. One person’s food took over an hour but we saw 2 people behind us get their order of the same thing. When we went to ask they gave us a bunch of attitude and said “we can’t cancel the order because we just started making it.” Paid $30 for 4 shrimp and 2 scallops in a plate of tomato soup. Mid food for an extremely high price. The oysters were fine but expensive.

New post, as they have really expanded this from my last visit 2 years ago. Now the dining area is much bigger. Simple Menu for about $30, shrimp creole and shrimp and grits were amazing, as well as about $20 for a dozed raw oysters that are SO fresh! Beer and wine were super reasonably priced! Loved the staff. (We ate at the bar). This is a Homer Must-do!

Below is from 2 years ago: The front of the building is a “kiosk-like”, small facade for a shop that sells great frozen seafood for reasonable prices. You walk by this on your way to the Broken Oar seafood/oyster restaurant. Very nice owner/manager.
The “Broken Oar” is the small bar and a window to get your amazing seafood and drinks and eat outside on the casual outdoor patio with the amazing views. Sit a bit back from the point as it’s warmer and less windy!
As for the overall experience…this is now my new favorite place, on earth, for seafood. Yes we dropped $100 on
Oyster raw
Oyster rocker feller
Peel your own shrimp
Steamer calms
Toasted bread
By the ocean
Sunny day
Heaven.

Charming little bar with a nice selection of fresh seafood. Had the peel-yourself shrimps (for the first time, what a mess, but what fun it was!) and the crème Brulee (to die for). But was delicious and the staff was super friendly and I highly appreciated their patience handling those silly questions of mine (stupid tourist).
