The quality of the breakfast has dropped dramatically. The eggs are greasy and cooked worsen , the tomatoes taste soggy, and the bread, which used to be soft and delicious, is now dry and bland. What once felt like a hearty, authentic Afghan breakfast now feels rushed and poorly prepared.
On top of that, the service has gotten worse. The staff used to be attentive and welcoming, but now they seem careless and uninterested. It takes a long time to get food, and when it finally comes, it doesn’t feel worth the wait.
It’s sad to see a place that once had such great potential decline like this. I truly hope the owners take feedback seriously and bring back the quality and service that made this restaurant special. Until then, I can’t recommend their breakfast anymore.
After years away from my hometown, I returned to discover a sprawling, upgraded community that made me feel like a tourist in my own backyard. Reconnecting with high school friends was top priority, and they enthusiastically suggested Kabobistan—a Middle Eastern gem just down the street from my old stomping grounds. I was intrigued, especially when they hyped up a $60 breakfast meal deal.
Now, as someone in winter bulking mode, $60 for breakfast sounded like a snack. “Sure,” I thought, “I’ll probably need a post-breakfast breakfast.” Oh, how gloriously wrong I was.
Enter: The Ottoman Breakfast.
This wasn’t just breakfast; this was a full-blown food festival that made me question how anyone could eat light in the Middle East. The sheer variety was stunning. Several cheeses? Check. Fresh cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and olives? Double check. Nuts, grapes, jams, sauces, honey, butter, grilled eggplant, peppers, sujuk (think spicy Turkish pepperoni), eggs, and tea? Yes, yes, yes! They even managed to plate grilled peppers in a way that screamed, “You must Instagram this.”
Plates kept arriving like an unending parade of edible delight, each one more impressive than the last. My skepticism about the portion size turned into admiration. By the end, I wasn’t just full—I was fulfilled.
The service was also top-notch, with the staff weaving between tables like seasoned pros. They did forget our tea momentarily, but I’ll forgive them because, let’s be honest, by that point I was too busy calculating how much of my appetite I’d left in the Middle East on those tours overseas.
So, to my bulking brothers and grazing sisters, hear me loud and clear: Kabobistan is your sanctuary. Bring your friends, your appetite, and maybe some stretchy pants. If you don’t leave with a belly full of joy and a food coma on the horizon, you did it wrong.
Bravo, Kabobistan. You’ve set the bar high. See you next time I’m in town!
Definitely recommending, we’ll be coming back for sure!
Let’s start with the service – after waiting 1 hour and 10 minutes, our food was finally served, but by then, we had completely lost our appetite. Many customers even left because of the long wait.
Now, coming to the food:
• The parathas were straight out of the freezer, fried, and served like that—completely lacking freshness.
• The egg dishes were a nightmare.
• The scrambled eggs had no salt or pepper—just plain and tasteless.
• The shakshuka had a strong raw tomato purée smell, making it unpleasant to eat.
• The Afghani eggs had so much tomato that it felt like we ordered a tomato dish, not eggs.
• The pepperoni eggs were ruined—the pepperoni was overcooked and tough, and one side of the egg was completely hard-fried.
This was one of the worst breakfast experiences I’ve ever had. Frozen food, poor seasoning, excessive tomato, and a painfully long wait time—nothing was right. Definitely not recommended.
We returned at 10:00 a.m. for breakfast, but still had to wait outside the front desk for 15–20 minutes. No staff appeared, despite calling out multiple times Chapi , Chapi . This lack of accuracy and professionalism was extremely frustrating and unacceptable.
