If you’re looking for a great Southern food spot, this is definitely the place to visit. I discovered it during my lunch break and ordered the catfish plate with mac & cheese and candied yams. Everything was phenomenal—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. I enjoyed it so much that I brought my wife back for dinner later that same day. The owner was professional, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. It’s always a great experience when both the food and the hospitality stand out. I’m looking forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu!

I really enjoyed the food here! I am a Southern man, so my expectations are always slim to none when it comes to these types of establishments. I got the fish plate with two sides with the Mac and cheese and crinkled fries. The catfish was cooked well and the seasoning was good as I bit into each piece of the fish. The biscuit feels more like cornbread which is a great thing, since it was very soft and buttery. I ordered a waffle, and it was pretty solid. I love how you can pour your own hot sauce and tartar sauce; most places can be stingy and charge on that. My only complaint would be the portion sizes. I would definitely come back here!

I was looking for a soulfood place and this place popped up. Great Environment & Customer Service. The fish was hot & fresh macaroni & cheese had great flavor & greens was good. Oh and that bread i promise you was soooo good. I definitely will be going back again

Wonderful food absolutely delish , fresh and always hot ! It’s always consistent too never disappoints. Big portions. The owner loves what he does and really cares , he’s so kind too. Cozy atmosphere needs a little putting together but you can’t beat the food especially if your missing some comfort food ! We always come back for more ! The wings, catfish and fried okra are my families favorite.

This is my third time coming to JW’s to get catfish and grits and the first time my grits were overcooked and I had to come back to get a side that I paid for but was not included in my order.. I didn’t get anything for the inconvenience. The second time my order was made perfectly, no complaints at all which inspired my third visit. This time, on a Sunday, I ordered as soon as they opened. For some odd reason the grits were watery and undone with no Cajun cream, etc. No fried green tomatoes, for which I guess they figured the extra piece of catfish would suffice. I’m not demanding or expecting perfection every time i come in, but the same courtesy and decency that other customers have mentioned in their reviews. There is no reason why the grits should’ve been that watery and that they were so ok fumbling the first order of the day. And when I come in and say that I’m picking up for “Lex White” … what’s the point of asking me for my email address?. SET THE SAME STANDARD FOR ALL ORDERS AND ALL CUSTOMERS PLEASE love nonetheless

Now when it comes to a salad I expected a big salad in a big container. But No. I got a side salad portion in a big container. Fish size was fine. But the lettuce portion was disappointing for $18. I’m just saying it could have been more salad. Dressing should always go on the side when it comes to To-Go orders. Catfish was not as crispy on the outside as expected. Well flavored. Cornbread is top tier.
But I will not be going back. Sorry. I hate to waste my money if I am not getting my money’s worth.

Visited JW’S FISH and Biscuits in Sterling and the whole table loved everything. Everything was fresh, hot, seasoned, and generously portioned. I definitely recommend! As a southerner, I wasn’t sure what to expect and I’m so pleased to have found a go-to soul food spot.

My husband and I were in the area and we were hungry for some fried fish. We quickly found J W, fish and biscuits and ordered the whining and the boom boom firecracker shrimp. This has to be the hands-down Fish fry I’ve ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection fresh and the staff was so nice and generous. They have a bakery next-door. Can’t wait to try my cupcake I got definitely great southern hospitality.

I was looking for some authentic Southern comfort and soul food on a Sunday and came across JW’s Fish and Biscuits through a Google search. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming — just like grandma’s kitchen.
I ordered the two-whiting platter with sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, white rice, and collard greens. I also added extra sides just to sample the variety. Every dish was flavorful and well-seasoned, and the fish was served hot and perfectly cooked. The biscuit, which had a wonderful balance of biscuit and cornbread texture, was especially memorable.
Chef Dennis personally came by to ensure everything was to my satisfaction, which added a personal touch to the experience. Overall, the food was comforting, delicious, and exceeded my expectations. Excellent job, Chef Dennis and the JW’s team — I look forward to returning soon.

Amazing food and great customer service. This hidden gem offers old school fried fish with the best dam biscuit I have had in awhile. Also the chef Dennis offered us a free cake slice when our order was slightly wrong. The professionalism was amazing. He has a lifelong customer in me! Get the catfish plate with yams and mac! You won’t regret it
