My husband and I have been purchasing pies from Just Pies for over 12 years. We started at the location on North High street, and we have continued with the Westerville location after the North High street location closed. With that, we recently purchased our favorite pie, pecan pie, in early December since we missed getting one for Thanksgiving due to me having surgery the week of Thanksgiving. For the first time ever, we experienced our favorite pie not tasting quite the same, and actually pretty nasty. Since we know that their pies are usually pretty amazing, we figured that we had maybe just gotten a bad pie. My husband called to give feedback immediately and he was instructed to return to the bakery, and told that they would replace the pie at no cost. Additionally, he offered to take pictures of the pie in the trash to show that we weren’t able to eat it and he was told that that would be sufficient. That said, when I went to get the replacement pie yesterday, I was met with nothing but hostility by the manager. When I explained why I was there, she immediately asked me for a receipt, told me that she couldn’t just replace a pie without a receipt, and then walked away into an office where I could still see her mumbling something under her breath. While in the office, she asked if my husband left a name and continued to go on about how she couldn’t replace a pie without a receipt or a name. I called my husband to get the receipt and the name of the employee that he spoke with over the phone, and while he couldn’t recall the employee’s name from over a week ago, he did share that he had spoken with Ainsley earlier that day, and together we found the receipt. Once I shared the receipt, the manager then went on to tell me that Ainsley didn’t work last week. I clarified that my husband had spoken with Ainsley that day, but the manager never left to have a conversation with Ainsley. Additionally, the manager asked me if we brought the pie back in. I shared that we weren’t instructed to do so, but I showed her pictures of the pie in the trash. The manager then asked me for the amount that we had paid for the pie (even though I had already showed her the receipt), and when I shared the amount, she told me that we had paid for a medium pecan pie and not a large pie like I initially stated. I shared with her that I wasn’t familiar with the sizes since my husband purchased the pie originally. Additionally, I shared with her that I would have expected more kindness from her rather than unkindness at the manager level. I also shared with her that we were good people and that we weren’t trying to trick her out of a free pie, we just wanted a replacement and we followed the steps that were provided to us via phone. Lastly, I shared that I had been battling breast cancer and I did not expect to have a battle for a replacement pie. She then changed her tone to a much softer tone, she told me that she didn’t think that she was being unkind, and then she told me that she had had a long day. She then tried to give me a frozen pie since they didn’t have any fresh medium pecan pies made. I pushed back as we had never had a frozen pie and I didn’t want to have another negative experience with one of their pies. She ultimately gave me a free large pecan pie, I thanked her and left. While we landed in a good place, this experience was absolutely horrible and I was highly offended by the way that I was treated. I am an African American woman, and I can’t help but to wonder if I would have received the same experience if I looked like the Caucasian manager. While I can appreciate having a process in place for issues, I cannot appreciate when no one is aware of the process, including two staff members, and the customer is left feeling like their being scolded for not following the “process”. I typically don’t leave reviews, but this experience is weighing heavy on my heart so I thought I would share in hopes of the manager, and staff, providing better customer service to all going forward.

Staff was very kind. But A pie place with no pies. I was told they don’t take call ahead orders to show up at 9am. I drove 35 mins and show up as asked at 9am and they don’t have anything but a few medium and small pies. They said come back later they will put more pies out. I came back later – nothing but medium and small pies came out. Said the cream pies restock after 1pm, fruit pies after 9am. I don’t have all day to wait for random pies to come out. Not very efficient or customer friendly.

Pies are delicious, service is great! Normally don’t think of them for Valentine’s Day, but wanted something different for my daughters and wife than normal chocolate, etc. So stopped here, bought pies for everyone, and they were a huge hit.

The buckeye pie was exceptionally delicious! I enjoy eating it semi-frozen.
The peach pie was okay—crust delicious; peaches could have been more tender as they were somewhat crunchy; not a big fan of commercial pies with gel-type fruit filling; taste was perfect… not too sweet. I will probably just stick with the cream pies.
The chicken pot pie had a delicious homemade taste, but for whatever reason, the chicken had a “chickeny” smell— it didn’t taste spoiled, but the smell was off— I will not purchase again
The turkey pot pie also had a delicious homemade taste—I will definitely purchase again.
I cannot wait to try the key lime pie with whipped topping instead of meringue (with advanced order). I really appreciate that they sell small pies.

My husband brought home meat pies for dinner. I had a chicken pot pie and expected mostly chicken and the chicken to taste good. Well, neither were true. It was 90+% filled with vegetables (mostly peas – yuck) and the one piece of chicken I found was horrible tasting. I have never had such horrible tasting chicken. The crust was the only thing that was good about this chicken pot pie. They need to learn to make chicken pot pies, but until then call them PEA pies. My husband and son loved their turkey pot pies, but they don’t mind mostly vegetables.

I have to give these guys five stars just based on the line out the door. There are few places I have visited that gets this kind of loyalty from its customers. Unfortunately I did not realize how popular the pies were and opted not to wait in line. But now way can they be anything but fantastic and will get my chance to try them, just maybe not right before Thanksgiving.

I recently had Just Pies for the first time. As someone whose been to Key West and the Florida Keys many times, this definitely is just as good or better than most Key Lime pies I’ve had. The balance of tart and cream is perfectly balanced in the middle. The whipped cream is big but light tasting. And the crust is perfectly fresh and flakey.
