I had the pleasure of eating at Just Like Momma’s, and it truly lives up to the name. The oxtails were tender and full of flavor, falling right off the bone, and the yellow rice underneath soaked up every drop of that rich gravy. The mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy, the collard greens were seasoned just right, and the cornbread muffin was warm and fluffy — the perfect finishing touch.

This is soul food cooked with love, the kind that makes you feel right at home. If you’re looking for authentic comfort food that satisfies both heart and stomach, Just Like Momma’s is the place to be.

This is a quaint restaurant with welcoming customer service that makes you feel like you are family. I don’t usually eat soul food but the restaurant came highly recommended so I tried it out. I absolutely loved the greens and greens are not my favorite vegetable!! The Mac and cheese is the best blend of creamy cheesy goodness hands down! I ordered the ox tails which left little to be desired, it took some work to eat them, the meat did not fall off the bones, but they had a good flavor. The Key Lime cake was awesome!!!!! I took one bite and couldn’t stop I ate it before my meal and forgot to get a picture. The owner also made fresh baked macadamia nut cookies, so I got them while they were warm, this felt so good to eat! I can’t wait to return on a night with entertainment.

Only thing i complain about is it takes time for your order to come out because i think they cook it fresh every time. We waited approximately 1 hour to get our order for take away and its not really full of customers in there. I noticed that there are only 2 women in the kitchen and one of them is also the one taking orders and doing the cashiering. The lady did apologize to us for the inconvenience but I hope they will address and resolve this issue because an hour wait or more for the food is totally unacceptable and tend to lose customers especially if you have kids with you.

Regarding the food, honestly, its really good. The fried chicken wings is so fresh, flavorful and the breading crunchy and is not too salty. Gravy is on point. My 1 year old daughter liked the mac & cheese. My husband ordered the CheeseSteak and said it was delicious. The cornbread is too dry!

Ambiance is quite good tho but i think more lighting will be perfect. We will definitely comeback and check out other dishes in the menu, but i hope next time we won’t be a very loooongggg wait!

Extremely Disappointed!
Having read such positive reviews, we were excited about trying this restaurant. Decided to stop in for breakfast and even thought about returning for fish for dinner since it’s Friday & my husband’s birthday, January 16th. It was about 10:15 AM, the door was unlocked, no customers, and no one else visible. We closed the door and began to walk away & saw 2 other people approaching & walked in together. No one ever came out from the back until called with a “hello”.
The lady that came out was so rude & unwelcoming it was disheartening. She never attempted to seat us, instead she walked up front, picked up “one” menu & gave it us to share among 4 people as we stood standing at the register to take orders. She stated that there was no coffee for breakfast, only lemonade & soda. I asked with empathy…was something wrong because of the manner she was engaging with all four of us, and understanding that everyone has a bad day. I was cognizant of my tone & genuinely sincere.
She stood there staring blankly.
On that note, we decided to leave. I noticed that the other two customers were leaving as we got into our car. I’m so uncomfortable having had this experience and having to leave this review. I really would like to speak to the owner. The restaurant has too many great reviews and this was such an horrible & sad experience.

To begin with the positives, the service was excellent and the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. The reason for my three-star rating is entirely based on the food. My husband and I both ordered the fried chicken. I chose yams and mac and cheese as my sides, while he had fries and mac and cheese. The chicken looked great on the plate, but it was freshly made, which surprisingly turned out to be a letdown. The mac and cheese was decent but could have been more flavorful, and the yams were quite plain. For dessert, we tried the red velvet cake, which was enjoyable. In the end, the experience didn’t feel worth the price.

I was visiting the area with my daughter for an event and needed place for my son and I to eat, as we skipped lunch and it was now dinner time. This place popped up in my Google search with high ratings. So we decided to give it a try.

The restaurant is nice and clean. With lots of parking. I loved the library nook in the corner. The staff is very friendly and wait time reasonable . I ordered smothered chicken wings, fried okra, mac and cheese and fried okra. The fried okra was the best thing on the plate. My son ordered fried chicken, green beans and mac and cheese. He didn’t care for any of it. He really wanted french fries but they were out. He probably would have enjoyed those more. The portion size is more than enough.

I wanted so much to love this place but the food lacked flavor. The fried Okra was the best thing on the plate. I wish them the best and pray they can flourish in the community. But, I’m Caribbean, seasoned food is a necessity for our enjoyment.

Atmosphere, service, and portion size is spot on. If they add just a little more seasoning this place would be the talk of Apopka.

Was visiting from out of state and wanted to try some local food. This was such a great pick! It really felt like someone had us over to their house for dinner and cooked up their favorite dishes. We tried some foods we had never had before. Fun experience with friendly staff. Very clean. Would recommend!

The whole experience was delightful. It was my first authentic American soul food as I’m traveling here, and I’d recommend this place to anyone dropping by the area. The peach cobbler was great, too.
I’ll make sure to drop by again and try other menu as well.

Great environment and friendly staff, their food proves that love and a little bit of time will make all the difference in the quality of food served. If it were me, I would be charging people more for these burgers and chicken meals because they are just THAT good.

I love southern food and I love supporting local independent business owners. I had to give JLM a try. So, I took my wife there for lunch on a Friday. The man that greeted us was polite and our server was really sweet. I believe her name was Porshia. Because it was our first time, I wanted to try their gizzards as a side and not as a meal and they were quick to accommodate me. We ended up getting the fried fish, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, white rice and brown gravy. Everything was hot, fresh and well seasoned. It honestly reminded me of my late grandmothers cooking. The owner actually came out to our table and spoke to us. She was down to earth and pleasant. We plan to come here more often now. This is a business I truly wanna see do well in Apopka. They seem like really good people and they definitely serve great food.
