From the moment you walk through the door, you can tell Junction is different. The AAA Four Diamond and Wine Spectator Award certified, Junction, is a destination in itself. A warm, comfortable setting provides the backdrop for a dramatic meal, orchestrated down to the finest detail by our talented chefs. The open kitchen offers a behind-the-scenes view of the artistry that goes into each plate. Some dishes are even prepared tableside for a more interactive restaurant experience.

Celebrate Christmas Eve at The Junction. Kimberly was a wonderful server, the food was great. Had the pork tonkatsu, and loved it. Vegetarian option was cauliflower which was a hit. Carrot cake was tasty. Definitely recommend! For the season there is a giant gingerbread structure in the hallway, baked by the staff.

If you are in the Essex location or staying at the resort, this is a MUST!! Such a wonderful dining experience from start to finish. Everything tasted absolutely incredible and the staff were extremely knowledgeable on the items that were being served. The chefs interacted with our table and we loved the whole experience. They made our trip worth while! PS, their signature dish, the seared duck breast, is to die for!!

Things started off good, but took a quick decline. We got to swoop in to the chef table seats that were abandoned… which turned out to be a horrible decision (well, until the end. Stay tuned!) It was neat, seeing the chef and his sous cooking everything, but that also meant seeing when meals were done properly… and when frustration got the best of one chef in particular, which affected his cooking. Due to a miscommunication, a steak wasn’t done the way a customer wanted and had to be redone. This led to slamming of pots and pans, and the rushing the next meals to get them out in less time. We fell victim to this wrath by getting undercooked, forty-two dollar scallops.
I appreciate what they’re trying to do here, give you a high-end experience worth the high-end prices, but they’ve missed the mark terribly. The pasta was also way too al dente, and needed to be drowned in parmesan to be made tasty. Hearing one chef exclaim during cleanup how much he hates scallops was unprofessional, and it reflected in the way my order came out (Note: he did make some of the orders of scallops very good! When he got frustrated, his cooking went down the drain.)
The redeeming factor of this experience was when the main chef prepared this EXQUISITE cheese board from thin air and some faccacia we’d been eyeing all night (nearly 2 hours, to be exact!) It was so surprising and delicious, I could have cried. I think he knew how crappy the experience was and was being a great human trying to make things better. For this, I am extremely grateful.
Anyways, TLDR: Not worth the money. Food is dependent on the sous’ mood. Go to town even if you are staying at the Inn

My wife and I recently sat at the chef’s table and had an amazing meal. Our waitress Kimberly and Chef Devin made the night a memorable one. The blueberry goat cheese is a can’t miss, it was so creamy and delicious. We can’t wait to come back and have another great experience!

We had a fantastic experience. They do small seating’s with an open kitchen. When we dined on a Tuesday night their was a single waitress which gave it a very intimate feeling. The food was amazing, the steak with bone marrow butter was outrageous. We will definitely be dining here again!

Junction is the Pinnacle experience in the “culinary resort” known as Essex Junction. We have been many times now, and while pricey, the food is always excellent and the service is usually good. You will get items here that you will be hard-pressed to even find in other restaurants in surrounding Vermont. Their chef Nicole is top-notch and super friendly, and Patrick Cooks meat like nobody else. Sit at the chef’s table if you can.

We had a delicious meal at Junction! The food was excellent and the ambiance was great, as was the service we received from Jamie, Kim and Leticia! We can’t wait to come back!

We stayed at the Essex Resort & Spa for our anniversary weekend, and made dinner reservations at Junction as it was promoted to be an interactive restaurant. We had called and asked if it would be possible to move our reservation time up by a half hour, which they were unable to accommodate. We understood, but then were surprised when we arrived and there was only one other table of guests seated in the restaurant. I’m assuming they’re suffering from staffing shortages, but it was a bit strange. Regardless, the menu had some nice choices, and we landed on the tomahawk for 2. The whole night we were anticipating the interactive aspect of this restaurant experience, but that never happened. It was just a typical dining experience, which they did a great job at, but it was just a small letdown when it was advertised as something different, especially considering this was our anniversary dinner and I wanted to make it special. Maybe it usually is more interactive, but because of COVID it’s not? The kitchen was open and you could see the chefs cooking, but unfortunately we weren’t seated close enough to really watch them. We were very happy with the food, hence the 4 stars, and I appreciated that there was a Yelp check-in offer available. It was a nice option to have staying at the Essex, but I think if they hadn’t marketed it as something more than it was, I would’ve been happier with my experience.

Junction at The Essex never ceases to amaze me with what they bring to the table (pun intended). The presentation is only surpassed by the flavor, including various local cheeses and meats, in addition to countless other gourmet ingredients.
As a value inclined diner, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Junction is a bit on the pricier side, but totally worth it. From the day’s amuse bouche to their inspired dessert options, I can’t imagine ever being disappointed by anything here.
(I’m updating this review with photos from our most recent meal in sept. 2020, since reopening. One of the best meals we’ve ever had.)

Excellent food and quirky decor. Posh hotel located on beautiful grounds. There’s a tavern next door that’s supposed to have superior pub food; looking forward to trying it. In warmer months they have outside seating which I think would be lovely. Overall a tasty, fancy (pricey), place with interesting decor. There are places downtown church that I’d probably go to for upscale dining over this as it’s out of the way for us but if you’re staying or live in the area I think it’s a treat worth trying.
