If this restaurant were a movie, I would give it like 3 to 4 stars on Letterboxd, but as it stands, I have no real reason to bring down an honest local business’ rating based on my own personal preferences. The offerings, or at least what we ordered, were just not revolutionary to me. My favorite thing we had was probably the complimentary bread and butter. It was served with two types of butter; a chive and a truffle, and a really delicious pesto. On that note, I don’t know if they’ve had a history of having to throw away unfinished bread too often or something- but the portions were stingy. Both the complementary bread and butter, and the burrata appetizer I ordered were served with just one piece of toasted bread cut in half for two people. The entrées were really heavy on the stomach. I agree with other reviewers who say that the cuisine sides heavily on Italian, the only truly equally Japanese/Italian item I saw on the menu was the matcha tiramisu. For that reason, despite not really loving sweet Matcha, I had to get it. The portion on this was absolutely minuscule, which was fine because I didn’t like it anyways (as foreseen,) but I think the serving easily could’ve been doubled based on the portion sizes of the other things we received (sans bread of course.) Atmospherically, the place is tiny and feels a little bit squished, but the decor I thought was fun and tasteful. Personally, we were not given the time limit warning that I saw some other reviewers report on, maybe because it was earlier on a Wednesday night. We also did make a reservation and were sat immediately, which was great. Ultimately, I just don’t see myself ever returning, and the food was not unique enough for me to say “you have to go!” In a word: Underwhelmed.

The food here is absolutely amazing. Danielle was our server and she made the visit here even better. Danielle was awesome. We had reservations for a table. The couple at the table we were waiting on were done eating and just chatting. Marco offered us to sit at the bar until they left. We accepted. We really enjoyed the bar seating. We could watch the chefs and all the servers passed by us. When the table did open up we just stayed at the bar. We liked it that much. I definitely agree with Junah winning the James Beard award.

It’s always hit or miss trying restaurants in Salt Lake. With prices how they are, it’s hard to justify trying a new restaurant if it’s not truly special. Junah was just that experience. You will absolutely want a reservation, but they were kind enough to change mine from 2 to 3 people 90 minutes ahead of time.

The restaurant is small, the menu is limited, but everything we tried was fantastic. We ordered three appetizers, two pastas, and a dessert, and two of us had alcohol, and we were all stuffed AND had some leftovers to take home.

For appetizers, we ordered the midnight burrata (burrata and blueberry jam served with their homemade toast), the gyoza shaped ravioli (not sure what the filling was, meat and cheese, with a cheesy wafer and brown butter sauce), and the special of the evening, some kind of mussels (I discovered I’m not a fan of mussels but my friends loved them ). We also received complimentary bread with two kinds of butter plus some pesto with olives (the green butter and the pesto were my favorite).

Believe it or not, we were already starting to get full, so we ordered just two pastas to also share. The gnocchi alla Junah was my favorite— pillowy clouds in a rich tomato cheese sauce with a huge ball of mozzarella on top. I didn’t eat any of the clams from the fettuccine di Nira alle Vongole, but I did try some of the pasta and sauce and it was tasty. But the gnocchi were definitely my favorite. We had some of that to take home.

For dessert, we got the matcha tiramisu, which was small for the price but we were so stuffed at the point lol. It was creamy and refreshing, not too sweet, with a nice almost savory crunch from the pistachios.

I didn’t try the sake or the wine, but my friends did, and they had no complaints.

The service was leisurely and informative, but if there is one sour note, it was being told before ordering dessert that our reservation was limited to 90 minutes due to the size of the restaurant and the demand of other reservations. We still had 25 minutes left. It’s not the server’s fault and we understood, but it was a bit unexpected. Maybe that could be included on the reservation page?

I do recommend going with a group of 3-4, so you can try the different dishes and split the price. It’s expensive! I’d say it’s worth it though. It’s interesting and different enough to be special without being too adventurous.

Wow—just wow. I’m genuinely shocked (and thrilled) that we have something this progressive and culinary-forward in Salt Lake City. Junah easily holds its own against some of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Los Angeles and New York.

I never thought I’d be such a fan of Japanese–Italian fusion, but I’m officially converted. I’m not sure how I made it this far in life without it.

This is a place for everyone, but it will be especially appreciated by foodies, travelers, and anyone who loves elevated dining and thoughtful cuisine. The atmosphere is intimate, so make sure you snag a reservation—this is not a walk-in kind of spot.

Service was excellent, the vibe was sophisticated, and the food was truly incredible. I also loved the attention to detail—hot food on hot plates (something so many restaurants overlook) really shows how much they care about the experience.

I’m already planning my next visit.

This quickly became one of our top 5 favorite restaurants in SLC last night and mainly because there aren’t many restaurants of this caliber in the area. The presentation and more importantly flavors of the food matched what you would expect to get at a restaurant in nyc. For the two of us, we ordered: 2 antipasti, 1 primi and 1 segundi and it was the perfect amount of food. Bread with some amazing butters and arugula pesto dipping oil are also brought out. The aurora crudo, tartare di manzo, tagliolino al mentaiko and tagliata di bosco were all delicious. I would absolutely order them again and recommend. The tartare, served on a foundation of thinly sliced and stacked potatoes, and the mentaiko, such a unique pasta flavor, were probably my favorite standout dishes of the night.

You definitely need a reservation if you’re coming on the weekend. It would be cool if you could reserve the type of table or at least the “chefs” counter vs a booth. The ambiance and vibe wasn’t as intimate or unique (we were seated in a booth) as I was hoping but it wasn’t an issue.

We will be back!

The salad was really tasty! I enjoyed the risotto. Overall the food was on the sweeter side. Clearly marked vegan options, but hopefully they add more selection. We had every vegan item on the menu on this visit.

The food was wonderful. Asian fusion IS my thing! The only real complaint I have was the service. Our server was not bad, but sometimes, it took a while to get a hold of her. Also, I asked for more complimentary bread and butter, but she did not bring it out. In addition, she didn’t seem too friendly.

The food itself was good. Each dish was definitely unique. The tagliolino al mentaiko had a very subtle taste to it, but it was nice and creamy. The matcha tiramisu was soft and had a hint of matcha flavor. I really like the midnight burrata! It came out very hot haha I think it could be a dessert with how sweet it is. The complimentary bread and butter/sauce was nice to have. The butters are made in house. I like how they gave me different kinds of butter, one being truffle flavored. I wanted more bread & butter but was not given any more, even though I specifically asked. Overall, nice vibe. It’s very minimally modern. I would consider this place a more upscale dining establishment.

Fantastic restaurant! The menu has lots of great options with interesting fusions and approaches to dishes. We loved everything we ordered. The ambience is really nice too and great place for a date. Also the service is great with attentive and friendly staff – I felt like we got things at just the right time and without any lulls where we felt like we were waiting and also without feeling rushed

What an awesome place. With Cosmica getting all the hype, Junah actually was much better.

Creative food that is a perfect fusion between Italian and Japanese. Great wine pairings, and amazing atmosphere once you get inside (street outside is a little sketchy).

Get as many apps as you can, and split some entrées so you can experience all the food. Even the deserts lived up to the Italian/Japanese fusion somehow!

My wife and I went here on our anniversary and it is our new go to spot for any future special occasions.

Fantastic, unique food here! Each dish was so flavorful and beautifully plated. Junah has a beautiful, refined atmosphere to compliment the menu.

My boyfriend and I ordered one from each antipasti, primi, secondi, and dolci section to share, which I felt was the perfect amount of food. We ordered the Glazed Maitake, Gnocchi alla Junah, Tagliata di Bosco, and the Matcha Tiramisu along with a couple glasses of Italian wine. We loved everything we ordered. The Maitake was texturally fun being so crisp but also so tender. The Gnocchi alla Junah was amazing, the spicy sauce was perfect and very well-balanced. The gnocchi was very soft, it could melt in your mouth but I would’ve preferred more bite. The Tagliata di Bosco was the standout, best thing we ordered. The Tagliata di Bosco is steak that has been marinated for three days served on a bed of mushrooms and truffle sauce. Just writing about that steak and that sauce is making wish I could have it in front me right now. The sauce was out of this world and the perfect pairing to the steak. Additionally the carrots served with the steak were prepared in the best way possible, I’m not sure what but they were crazy delicious. Our waitress claimed the steak to be cooked medium rare but it definitely came out rare but I am so not complaining I thought it was perfectly cooked for this preparation. Finally, the matcha tiramisu was so good and such a refreshing flavor. The tiramisu is served sitting on a dish so the tiramisu definitely had more structure but the ladyfinger cookies were perfectly soaked. It was one of the best tiramisus I’ve had in a while. Also, the pistachios on the tiramisu were killer.

We did get a reservation right at opening at the counter looking into the kitchen. There was a line of five or so couples waiting to get sat right at opening but I did see a couple open tables at 6pm. The counter seat was chic and fun to see the staff prepare the food, however it was louder than the rest of the restaurant. We did put on the reservation that it was for a birthday and our waitress did check my ID while ordering drinks and said nothing which is alright but don’t expect anything special if you come for your birthday fyi lol
