Julio’s Wood Fired Pizza & Grill in Southbury is hands-down the best Italian food I have ever had—and I do not say that lightly. I would absolutely drive 8 hours just to eat here again. That’s how good it was.

I started with the burrata appetizer, served with baby arugula, fire-roasted red peppers, and prosciutto. Fresh, creamy, perfectly balanced.

For entrées, I had the linguini with veal meatballs, topped with ricotta, fresh garlic, marinara, and grated parmesan. The flavors were rich but not heavy, and the veal meatballs were unbelievably tender.

I also tried the pan-seared scallops over cheese ravioli, with baby spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, wild mushrooms, and a sauce made from red wine from their braised short rib dish, marsala, and heavy cream. This dish alone deserves its own standing ovation.

This is the kind of place that reminds you what really good Italian food is supposed to taste like.

The only downside is the fact that it’s tucked inside a smaller commercial plaza, because the place is seriously underrated and deserves more hype.

So if you’re anywhere near Southbury or honestly anywhere in Connecticut, go.
And if you’re 8 hours away like me?
Still go. It’s worth it

The restaurant is a nice vibe. It seems a lot of people are regulars as they know a lot of the workers. I always think that’s a good sign when people keep coming back. Ordered pick up and felt like it came out pretty fast. Got the shrimp and scallop pizza and I thought it was good but a little salty but not unbearable. Not sure if I would get again but they had a lot of other pizza options that looked good!

Anastasia our server was very attentive and pleasant. We were in town for the first time and wanted pizza. The pizza was good and flavorful. We also had ceasar salad, calamari, flatbread and pasta. Everything was delicious and hot. We will be going back soon for the pizza because it was so good and we will try other menu items.

We LOVE Julio’s. Consistently excellent. Tonight was chicken Milanese with arugula salad and the incredible veal meatballs and pasta. It was tough not to order the vodka sauce dish. Their salads are excellent and I’m not even a salad fan. Pizza is spot on. Cocktails are very, very good! Staff is friendly and go above and beyond to accommodate any request. Anastasia is a GEM!

We’ve always gotten takeout from here, the portions seem smaller every time we got it compared to what’s served in the restaurant. The value just seems to have gone down hill. Most of the staff is very kind and accommodating and helpful. It being the local easy spot for a quick bite in town makes it easy and usually enjoyable. But lately some bartenders are not themselves. Maybe they have new management or ownership but it’s not what it once was. Unfortunate. Other places in town have much happier staff and better portions and pricing.

Used to be good. Got delivery 1st time 30 mins late and cold as chit. Used to be cripsy pizza nope looked at one slice and soggy as chit. 60 dollars wasted left 2 pizzas outside for raccoons. Doubt their review better. Pizza 2 mins away buries this place now

We catered our Christmas dinner from Julio’s and every tray of food was excellent. Highly recommend their meatballs and chicken cutlets. The quality of the food and pricing was great. Will cater from them again in the future. Also, their pizza at the restaurant is excellent. Thin and crispy and I love their sausage and broccoli rabe pie.

I recently visited Julio’s Wood Fire Pizza and Grill and had a good experience overall, even though I only sampled a small portion of the menu. I ordered a pizza and an arugula salad. The pizza was great—I’m a fan of thin, crispy dough, and Julio’s delivered on that front. However, I felt the pizza could have benefitted from more fresh basil. It seems the basil was added before the pizza was cooked in the wood oven, which caused it to shrink and burn at the tips. Adding the basil after the pizza is cooked might be a better approach.

As for the arugula salad, it was bland but still good. I think it could be elevated with some shaved Parmesan cheese, prosciutto, crispy pear, and walnuts to add more texture and flavor. I look forward to trying more items from their menu in the future.

Best eggplant parm I’ve ever had in my life… and I come from an Italian fam that eats it A LOT! Great place to cater from. The salmon was excellent which I had in the restaurant this week. Broccoli rabe fantastic too. Definitely a consistent great spot and my family’s new go-to for the area.

We’ve been going to this restaurant for take-out pizza for several years and have never been disappointed.
Recently, we had dinner in their outdoor area and it was great.
Becky, our server, was very efficient and cordial.
The food was delicious and the portions were more than adequate.
We are looking forward to our next visit.
