The service! The food! The owner Claudia! There is not much more I can say about this place. Local, friendly, high quality, and an atmosphere with little competition. Having been in Austin for 10 years, it shocks me that I have not been here sooner.
New owners took over a long established Mexican spot 2 years ago and have made it even better. I cannot wait to go back for mole enchiladas or fish fridays. Try the green chicken enchiladas, the pozole soup, rotisserie chicken, or beef quesadilla.

Stopped in here for lunch while I was out making work calls. When I walked in I was immediately acknowledged with a warm smile. They were so nice and accommodating asking if I’d had ever been in before, explaining to order at the cash register etc. I started with chips and salsa which were obviously made there and amazing! Then had the enchilada plate. Everything was awesome! I will keep this on my radar when in the area!

Delicious food and even more incredible hospitality at Julio’s. The enchilada and fajita plate is one of the best dishes in Austin and I say that as a 15 year resident here.
The owner and staff is so inviting and friendly, it’s easy to see why so many locals are regulars.

Julio’s is a little hidden gem right in Hyde Park. Our first time visit and the owner Claudia made the experience so amazing with her service and the food was delicious (as well as the margaritas). Can’t recommend this place enough!

I practically come to this place almost every day, and the food always feels like it was made by my mom — truly homemade, comforting, and consistently delicious every single time.
I absolutely love their chicken mole Mondays, the flautas, the nachos with ground beef, the margaritas, the queso with chips, the pozole, and the chicken soup. Even the rice has a unique, incredible flavor.
Honestly, I love everything about this place. The food, the consistency, and the home-style taste make it a spot I always look forward to coming back to. Highly recommended!
And I forget the actitudes from all of the staff

This is in the Hyde Park and Hancock Park area of Austin. So beautiful, fun and retro. I visited during the week during the lunch hour rush. The place was hopping busy, but I was still able to find a seat in their cozy and energy filled dining room. They also had an outside dining area option that would allow you to enjoy the neighborhood vibe. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the food was very good. They took my order in a timely manner and my food was served within minutes. I ordered the chicken quesadilla with spanish style rice. Both were delicious and the serving size was appropriate for a lunch meal. I’m not a big fan of food coma serving sizes. I prefer smaller portions with an emphasis on quality not quantity. They even appear to be dog friendly.

Julio’s is an absolute gem. You can feel the history the moment you walk in. A 40+ year, family-run, generational business that truly gets it right.
The staff was incredibly friendly, the restaurant was spotless, and the food was some of the most authentic and best-tasting Mexican food we’ve had. We met Claudia, the owner, and she was so kind and welcoming. You can tell this place is run with real care and pride.
My wife, myself, and our baby daughter all loved it. Zero reservations, zero complaints. Local, authentic, and done right. We will absolutely be back soon.

New owners, UPDATE: I was nervous about Julio’s changing hands, as I’ve been coming here for over 20 years and didn’t want it to change. Good news! it’s even better than it used to be. The new owners kept the old menu, so I can still get my favorite soft tacos. PLUS they’ve added a few new things: Monday special: chicken mole, Friday: fish tacos, and Tuesday: crispy tacos. Pozole soup is a new everyday item; we tried it and loved it. Everything was delicious. Whew! I hope this restaurant is around for another 20 years.

Julio’s is a small local café that has been around for decades and serves excellent. Text Max with great service. On Tuesdays they have crispy beef tacos, which are fantastic.

the service was very friendly and fast. chips and salsa were not free but were very very good. however, the portion sizes of the food were very small and the quality was mediocre. got the veggie taco plate and an enchilada; there was one enchilada and one singular taco and the tortilla was definitely store bought. and the prices are not at all appropriate for the amount of food you receive. the limeade was super tasty, and the salsa was delicious, but for the main course you might as well eat at home.
