Back in 2004, Kash along with some classmates had decided to plan a restaurant for their senior-level marketing class at UAB. The project took the full course of the semester and after several grueling months of research they came up with an idea to start a seafood restaurant with a beach feel.

Cajun-Creole seafood stars in this mural-adorned casual cafe known for its yearly crawfish boil.

In the past, Jubilee Joe’s has been a favorite of mine for seafood. But my most recent visit, the food was subpar. I ordered shrimp and grits as well as an oyster and shrimp platter with jambalaya a difference hushpuppies as my side items. The creole sauce for the shrimp and grits was really good, but the grits had several large lumps in it. The fried oyster and shrimp I received was good…but the jambalaya looked like it was leftover from the previous day. The sausage in it was all shriveled up. It was on the dry side…I ended up leaving it on the plate. I was the only one in my party to order that. Everyone else’s order seemed to be good. Normally, I have had great experiences here…but this time they missed the mark on food…but the service and atmosphere were great!

This was our first visit to Jubilee Joe’s, but it won’t be our last. The food we ordered was amazing. The Etouffè was the best I have ever eaten, wonderful flavor and a nice kick of heat. We enjoyed it so much, we got some to go. The Seafood Gumbo was top notch. Again amazing flavor. The service was fantastic, as well. Friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.

The Food Was Pretty Good For My First Time Going Here. I Had The Fried Catfish, Fried Shrimp And Jambalaya With Coleslaw. I Would Have Preferred Fries As A Side, But They Don’t Offer It. I Also Had Bread Pudding For Dessert Which Was Good. They Don’t Offer A Free Dessert For Your Birthday, Like Pappadeaux Do. Overall Was An Okay First Time Experience. This Was My Birthday Dinner. My Daughter Had The Beignets For Dessert, They Were Good.

Food was outstanding. My wife and I went here for date night and had a blast. The hurricane was great. Our fried green tomatoes were exquisite. We dined on the seafood platter, pasta extravaganza, chargrilled oysters, and gumbo. It’s was all cooked to greatness. Definitely a date night “go to”. The ambiance of the resultant was excellent with love music and low lights which made the tables feel very intimate. We are definitely planning a return visit.

The catfish was great, the crawfish etouffee was really good, hush puppies were standard good. The price was a good value given the amount of catfish I got. The service was good once it got rolling. I came at an odd time, so no big deal. I will definitely go back and expand my choices. Really liked the atmosphere.

First time visiting Joe’s Jubilee while in town and I had a great experience. The stuffed grouper was the highlight, it came out piping hot and the flavors were blended really well. Definitely fresh and well-seasoned.

The crawfish étouffée was good, just not my favorite dish on the table.

The Cher mocktail was my favorite drink and the virgin margarita was cool.

Service from the owner was superb, and the staff was hospitable and welcoming. Overall, the ambiance was nice and I enjoyed my visit.

10/10 would recommend and I’d definitely come back next time I’m in town.

Currently here, and this place is terrible. Three out of four meals came out cold. The gumbo was burnt, and it was obvious our food had been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time — the mashed potatoes even had a hard film on top.
My shrimp platter was so overcooked that the shrimp were stuck to the skewer. I had to cut them off with a knife, and the skewer itself was broken on my plate. That’s a serious safety concern — I couldn’t imagine if that had gone in my mouth or gotten stuck in my throat. Photos attached for proof. Also, $18 for 8 shrimp is absolutely ridiculous, especially when the server made it sound like much more.
My husband ordered a 1-lb shrimp boil and received only 11 shrimp. He also ordered potatoes and corn, which never came, even though we were charged for them. The boil was completely cold, had no butter, no sauce, and the dry seasoning was barely shaken on half the plate.
By the time my cheesecake drink arrived, it was already separated and clearly had been sitting for a while. A busboy cleared our table before our waiter ever came back. The server never checked on us or even bothered to see if our food was correct before giving it to us let alone even warm and our table was cleaned by a buss boy before we even saw the waiter again of received the check.
This place is an absolute joke. Save your money and go somewhere else. We will never return and make sure to recommend some where else to others. We spent well over $100 for very little, over cooked, incorrect, cold food.
The only good part of this entire experience was the hostess — she was very kind and professional.

Update: 2nd trip, October 2025:
Whoever is making this food has the best Etoufee recipe I’ve ever had. Don’t tell my family. And I hate to break it to all the expensive “original” restaurants by the water that I’ve been to… but this one is top tier for me. I will order this every single time from now on. Please do not change it. I would really love the recipe!
This time the oysters were still very good, but a little over done. & The beignets were delicious and soft.

1st trip, September 3rd 2025:
I had the best Rockefeller oysters I’ve ever had here.
I mean better than I’ve had at the ocean a bazillion times.
We came in a bout 30 mins before closing and they happily took us and served us some amazing food.
Shrimp and grits were great too. All of it was. Even the kids food. Sweet tea was great. Hushpuppies were great. I was very impressed and that’s hard to do with seafood/cajun for me. I’m usually “meh, could’ve been better.” I’ll be back.

Our food was just okay. My shrimp poboy was subpar at best. The ration of shrimp to bread was some of the worse I have had. I had the grilled shrimp, and they were a little over cooked. The seafood gumbo and the chicken and sausage gumbo were both tasty. The NOLA chicken was great! The bed of potatoes were nice and hot, and the chicken was seasoned well. My side of mashed potatoes were almost room temp. I would try again, however I would not reorder the poboy due to the ratio of meat to bread.
