This was my first time at JR’s Seafood Shack in Fenwick Island, Delaware. It’s amazing. When you arrive, it looks like an informal seafood restaurant/bar. There are hundreds of places like this, but the chef at JR’s is outstanding.

Our server, Terry, was friendly, efficient, and helpful. She checked on us often enough to be helpful, but not so often as to be obtrusive.

The food was beautiful and delicious. I have to apologize for forgetting to photograph the dishes when they arrived.

My wife teased me for ordering a burger at a seafood restaurant. I did it because the menu promised Angus beef, never frozen. I wasn’t disappointed. This burger was one of the best burgers I’ve had in my life.

If you want a great burger, and you’re at the beach anywhere from Rehoboth to Ocean City, JR’s Seafood Shack is the place to get it.

My wife had scallops. She was kind enough to let me taste a part of one in exchange for a bite of my burger. It was an even trade. That scallop was outstanding.

The restaurant has a free parking lot out front, and it’s wheelchair accessible.

I strongly recommend JR’s Seafood Shack in Fenwick Island, Delaware.

Absolutely fantastic service, experience, and meal. From the hush puppies, the prime rib & lobster tail. The seared tuna special, and the amazing crap dip fries. Definitely recommend trying the fried with the old bay seasoned hot sauce.

I recently dined at JR’s Seafood Shack and unfortunately, the experience didn’t meet expectations. I ordered a medium-well steak, but it arrived medium-rare. The mashed potatoes were served cold, and the crab cake lacked flavor. Additionally, after the food was delivered, no one checked in on us, I was starving so I ate the steak. When we mentioned the issues, the waitress mentioned there wasn’t much she could do. She said she would send the manager over but never did. We paid and left. While the atmosphere was pleasant, the service and food quality left much to be desired. I hope they can improve these aspects in the future, although I won’t be back.

“Tasty Seafood, But Portions Don’t Match the Price”

We visited J.R.’s Seafood Shack while on vacation in Ocean City, Maryland, with a party of seven. The experience was a bit of a mixed bag—some highlights, but also some drawbacks.

Starting with the positives: Our waitress was very nice, and the service overall was solid. The food came out quickly, was served hot, and everything was well-seasoned and flavorful. We started with the Carolina scallops appetizer—seared scallops with peach salsa and a ginger vinaigrette. The flavors were good, but at $16 for just four scallops, it felt a little overpriced.

For entrées, we ordered three different dishes. The Low Country Boil ($32) came with shrimp, sausage, mussels, crawfish, potatoes, corn, and a biscuit—classic Southern-style. The pan-seared salmon was served with sautéed spinach, greens, red peppers, a light tomato sauce, grilled squash, and roasted potatoes. I had the classic New Orleans shrimp and grits, which came with smoked andouille sausage, shrimp, bacon, spring onions, Creole sauce, and a biscuit. Again, everything tasted great, but the portion sizes were underwhelming for the price.

I understand that this is a tourist town, and maybe the pricing reflects that, but for an off-season visit, I was expecting a bit more value for what we paid. The restaurant itself had nice decor, even though it’s located in a strip mall.

Overall, J.R.’s Seafood Shack delivers on flavor and service, but the portion sizes didn’t quite match up to the prices. Would I go back? I’m on the fence. If you don’t mind paying a bit more for good seafood in a casual setting, it might be worth a visit—but if you’re looking for better value, you might want to explore other options.

Love the decor, how the tables were spread out, food was fantastic. Had a family dinner here, highly suggest the crab deviled eggs, hush puppies, seafood Mac n Cheese. Drinks and food were great, our waitress was amazing. Will make this a new regular stop.

We had a great meal here on our first visit. We tried a number of appetizers which everyone enjoyed. Heard a few say the crab soup was the best they ever had. The entrees were no exception. We were too full for dessert, but they also looked great. They have a lot of Big Oyster beers as well as a decent bourbon offering (much of whisky row even). The service was exceptional. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. We felt appreciated for stopping in. We will return.

This was the our first time to this restaurant. My wife had the crabcake with corn salsa and golden rice. I had the fried oysters with pimento cheese grits and collard greens. We had the calamari app to start. Everything was well made. My wife’s crabcake was well seasoned and tasted wonderful. My fried oysters were some of if not maybe the best I have had in the Fenwick/OC area. The sides were really good. The calamari also was also well made and the Thai chili dipping sauce went perfectly with them. The gentleman who was our server was friendly and great to work with. The price was reasonable for the quality of the food we recieved. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back.

The pictures don’t it justice. I should’ve listened to the reviews. This place is just another place in this area that’s deceiving and it’s a shame.

The fried green tomatoes is regular price of $16? I got that for $12 and it’s isn’t worth it.

The po boy, the bread is soft as if it hasn’t been fully baked and the shrimp isn’t fully cooked.
