Oh my GOSH, what a positive, upbeat, and tasty experience.
Joyland primarily serves Breakfast, Burgers, Hotdogs, drinks (they also have an impressively stocked bar,) and desserts.
The atmosphere is upbeat, friendly and inclusive. It gives off more of an eatery vibe than bar.
The menu has Gluten Free, and Vegetarian options. (I didn’t ask about vegan, sorry). Their crinkle cut fries are GF, crispy, and tasty.
The Cashier/server who helped us was Garret, Jake the General Manager also helped keep our order super fast and smooth.
When I again visit Birmingham, Joyland is already on my list of things to do.

On to the food, the Hamburger is old school smash burger cooked to perfection. The sauce is your mom’s version of French Dressing made with Mayo and ketchup minus the relish. The only slight issue was the onions. I would have preferred the option to have grilled onions but nonetheless it still added that much needed component of onion flavor to the sandwich. The bun was a brioche style and It carried the top notch quality of a Hero bun. It beats the old school white bread option
For $10 that sandwich was a meal initself with double patties and melted cheese. For all the quality ingredients used to create the sandwich, it’s well worth it.
Fries, OMG, it was a large size of back in the Day French fries. A hot crispy outer shell filled with mushy potatoes. It was a perfect french fry.
The shake was okay. It was made with soft serve ice cream.
The dessert, Fried Pie was described as Strawberry swirled in Cheesecake. It tasted like apple but it was still delicious. It would be great to have a Fall option such as a sweet potato or pumpkin filling in that buttery crispy crust.
Overall, the food was delicious and if you want a quality burger this location delivers.
3rd visit (July 2025)… all I can say is I wish I lived closer to this restaurant. Ordered a Joy Burger Deluxe with Fancy Sauce, curly fries, peach pie, and sweet tea. Customer service (Deliesha) 10/10. Great atmosphere and excellent burger! Soft serve ice cream is great as well!
First time visit….What a fantastic little burger place. First time visit. A buddy and I met there for lunch on a Tuesday. Not very busy when we walked in but business picked up soon after. I wasn’t sure what to order, and told the female cashier I had never been there. She was very friendly and offered several suggestions. I went with a double burger, with sauce on the side, not knowing if I’d like it. The burger, fries and sweet tea were all great. Definitely will return soon.
They were soooo nice and accommodating , they had gluten free hamburger buns but I really wanted a hotdog so they smooshed a hotdog on a GF bun for me it was perfect and delicious!! Thank you so much for caring for the gluten free people of the world.
I ordered the Joyland Deluxe, as I was told it was the creation of the owner. The $10 double smashed patty cheeseburger hit the spot. There was plenty of meat on a tiny bun. I like to go low-carb. I would’ve given this craft burger five Stars, but it came with low star Kraft with a K cheese. Ordinary cheese does not make an extraordinary burger. The Joyland sauce could’ve used more flavors, but maybe they didn’t put enough on mine.
My overall experience was a four Star. I will continue my journey looking for that five star hamburger creation.
Oh, forgot to say there are signs in front of the building two parking spots that say carry out curbside. So thanks for taking it out on me little fella.
