From the moment I entered, I sensed the sort of hospitality that is neither forced nor formulaic. The staff seemed to possess that rare intuition—appearing precisely when needed and vanishing before their presence overstayed its welcome. Accommodations were made without hesitation, and for a brief evening, one could almost believe the world outside the dining room did not exist.
The meal began modestly. Calamari—competent, lightly crisped, serviceable. But then came the onion rings: golden halos of indulgence, each bite a pleasing symphony of crunch and sweetness, harmonized perfectly by a house-made ranch dressing that reminded me, rather alarmingly, what ranch ought to taste like.
And then—the steak. Cooked with such precision that it could make lesser chefs weep. The exterior shimmered, the crust less of a sear and more of a buttery whisper—perhaps not the Maillard magic one expects, but a velvet prelude to the richness within. The sauces, of which there were several, provided a playful counterpoint: peppercorn with a sly wink, horseradish with conviction, and a red wine reduction so balanced it might make one forgive an earlier sin or two.
The potatoes arrived humble and triumphant, an ode to flavor and restraint. Too often a forgotten supporting actor, here they nearly stole the show—silky, seasoned, and unapologetically rich.
Alas, even a fine performance may falter in its final act. The Brussels sprouts, tragically, fell flat—lacking both the caramelized charm and assertive seasoning that could have saved them. One might forgive them as a misstep, a rare oversight in an otherwise disciplined kitchen.
At Joseph’s, the flaws are few, the pleasures deliberate. It is a place that understands the ceremony of dining—where a well-cooked steak and a gracious smile still matter. And in this age of overcomplication, that may be the finest flavor of all.
We had a 9:30 pm Friday reservation, arrived on time, and were seated right away. The first thing I noticed was how freezing cold it was. Other nearby tables also commented on it, and some even left right after finishing their meals. One positive was that the tables were spaced out and not crammed together.
Service was okay but slow, which was surprising since we were one of the only parties left by that time. Our server apologized for the wait. The ordering experience felt mid-tier. We were in and out in an hour, which was disappointing because I had expected a more paced and refined dining experience.
For an appetizer, we ordered the Wagyu Carpaccio. The flavor was good, but the crackers were some of the hardest, driest, stalest things I have ever eaten. I only finished them because I was starving. At that point, my partner and I were already joking that we should have just gotten the onion rings.
We both ordered steaks. I had the Wagyu Sirloin for $49 and my partner had the Ribeye for $65. They came out surprisingly fast, but our excitement faded as soon as we saw them. My partner’s ribeye looked like it had been boiled with barely any color or crust, while my steak did have a nice crust. Both were ordered medium-rare, so I am not sure what went wrong.
Unfortunately, the cold dining room meant our food started cooling quickly. My steak was extremely chewy, and I ended up eating it with the mashed potatoes just to mask the texture. The quality of the meat seemed fine, but whoever cooked it did not do it justice. My partner did not finish his ribeye because it was chewy and had an odd brine flavor. The three spears of asparagus on the plate were tough and hard to chew.
The mashed potatoes were fine, but nowhere near the best in town. Drinks were also just okay. We skipped dessert entirely because we did not want to risk another letdown.
The bill came to over $200 with tip, and we left wishing we had stayed home or gone to The Webster or St. Burch instead. We are not the type to complain in a restaurant, but by the end we just wanted to leave. Unless something drastically changes, we will not be back.
Disappointment.
This is the dining experience you want for a formal evening—where atmosphere, service, and exceptional food come together seamlessly. From the moment you walk in, it feels like dining upper-class on the Titanic: a timeless elegance infused with warmth.
The tall ceilings lend a sense of grandeur, while drapery softens the space, creating an intimate yet opulent setting. The servers are impeccably formal, anticipating your every need with precision and care.
Menu highlights:
– Area’s best Old Fashioned
– Wedge salad is the most impressive presentation I’ve seen
– Main course: the petite filet is perfection
– Side: the boursin mashed potatoes absolute decadence.
If you’re looking for something lighter, their fish is also exceptional. And if you’re lucky to get there when they have prime rib, you won’t leave hungry!
I recommend this spot to all my newly relocated clients and hey, don’t forget date night—it’s the perfect place to celebrate, connect, and enjoy the finer things in life.
