Joseph’s Steakhouse has basically cloned Peter Luger’s in the center of Bridgeport. We serve serves USDA Prime dry-aged beef. USDA Prime is the most tender and flavorful grade of beef available. Zagat has had this to say about us: “It’s all about the beef” at this Bridgeport chophouse owned by a Peter Luger alum, where “sizzling, juicy” steaks, including the “hulking” porterhouse for two, are served by “friendly” waiters in a “masculine”, “dark-wood” setting; admirers insist it “really stands out”, touting it as a “fabulous” “special-occasion place.” For years we have received awards for being the best steakhouse in CT. We can’t wait to serve you!

Great apple tart 10/10… Ha
I had a terrible experience at this restaurant on Valentine’s Day. I ordered a steak and specifically requested it to be cooked well done, with no red, no pink, and no blood. Unfortunately, the steak was served undercooked and was essentially inedible. When I brought this to the waiter’s attention, he told me that the steak was cooked perfectly and suggested I let it sit on the hot plate to cook further.
I was appalled by the waiter’s response and lack of willingness to accommodate my request. When paying $80 for a steak, I expect it to be prepared to my liking. The waiter’s attitude was unacceptable, and the service was extremely poor. He took my steak to redo everyone was done with dinner and my steak never came back. I told the waiter to cancel my order and he told me to take it home for later, we all agree that if I wanted take out I would have call and make an order over the phone. I refuse and We ended up leaving without eating the steak, and the waiter had the audacity to tell us to come back and give the restaurant another chance. And on top of it my mother in law has been sick from her stomach all night. Terrible what they are doing!
Let me be clear: the opportunity to provide good service was on Valentine’s Day. I will not be returning to this restaurant, and I strongly advise others to avoid it. The worst dining experience I’ve had in Connecticut.
The food… so underseasoned on everything! I’m sorry but when you have to add salt and pepper and even then u need the steak sauce it’s not good. Dry age was not tasted at all. The bone in steak was presented whole and not offered to be sliced, and this place would benefit greatly from some maldon salt. The asparagus boring, the Mac was ok but nothing special, served cold butter for bread, and the crème brûlée was some of the worst we have had. So runny and sweet it was not good. The steak itself was just not the best quality and maybe I’m picky because I work in a steakhouse but I was very underwhelmed.
The atmosphere was cool, like an old school New York steak house, but the energy from the staff was ehh.
We came because they were listed as Connecticut’s best steakhouse in a magazine article. Maybe they don’t claim to be Connecticut’s best but they do claim to be a steakhouse and they are barely that. They certainly charge steakhouse prices and that’s just … never mind.
Disclaimer : we did not have their signature items which were explained as dry aged porterhouse or ny strip and some bacon loaded salad.
Why aren’t the other steaks on the menu dry aged? Or even wet aged? Or are they?
1. The butter was not spreadable
2. All ice and no water in the glass
3. Our waiter could not explain anything about the meats except what was already written on the menu
4. Sloppy meat trimming … yes, it was prime and yes the portions were sizeable (not huge) … but I don’t want to eat gristle and fat
5. Under seasoned … seasoning after it’s been cooked with table salt just doesn’t taste the same
6. Sides were ok but nothing to write home about. Also decent portions but not huge as they claim.
7. Bbq sauce … really?
Just overall, I’d rather home cook a Costco steak.
If this was a diner I’d give them 3 stars. Then I’d see the check and bring that down to 1.
In all fairness, the staff was friendly and vibe was good so I’ll give them credit for that. I can see why they are popular locally.
While most of the food was decent, the mac and cheese lacked flavor. Our server, Paul, was inattentive and made several mistakes throughout the evening. I specifically ordered a French 75 and was instead brought a bottle of Prosecco with no explanation. He forgot my sister’s salad entirely, and she ended up being the last one served. He also failed to bring out the glass of Bonanza wine I requested to accompany my lamb chops—something I had asked for clearly and ahead of time.
To top it all off, despite this being a birthday celebration (clearly noted on the reservation), I was not acknowledged, wished a happy birthday, or offered a simple gesture like a complimentary dessert or glass of champagne—something that even modest establishments usually provide. For the price paid, the overall experience fell embarrassingly short.
To the management: I strongly urge you to revisit your customer service and training protocols. Attention to detail matters, especially on special occasions. Your team missed several basic service expectations, which poorly reflects your establishment. Please take this feedback seriously. No guest celebrating a special moment should leave feeling overlooked, disappointed, and frustrated.
I would if I could leave a negative star rating for customer service and experience. I hope this helps future guests avoid the same experience, and I sincerely hope Joseph’s can rise to the standard it claims to uphold.
Shoutout to my new friend and bartender Frank as he was amazing and entertaining.
