Walking into Jordyn’s Soul Café feels like stepping right into the heartbeat of Chicago – warm, vibrant, and full of flavor in every sense of the word. The atmosphere hums with that down-to-earth, urban Chicago energy — a mix of laughter, good music, and the comforting smell of slow-cooked goodness wafting through the air. The crowd is as diverse as the menu, and somehow everyone feels like family by the end of the night.
Let’s talk flavor because that’s where Jordyn’s truly shines. From the first bite of the Pot Roast Empanadas, you know you’re in for something special. Crispy on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth tender on the inside, and packed with that soulful, home-cooked flavor that instantly hits your heart. It’s soul food reimagined with a Caribbean twist — familiar yet exciting, comforting yet bold.
The oxtails are slow-braised perfection — rich, tender, and swimming in a sauce that begs to be soaked up with every last grain of rice and peas. And then there’s the jerk chicken — smoky, spicy, and layered with that island heat that builds just right, balanced by the sweetness of perfectly charred edges. Every bite tells a story of tradition, creativity, and serious culinary love.
But what really makes Jordyn’s stand out is the service. The team doesn’t just serve you — they welcome you. Every server, every host, every chef in the kitchen works together with a rhythm that makes you feel like you’ve been coming here for years. It’s genuine hospitality, the kind that makes the meal feel like Sunday dinner at your favorite auntie’s house.
In a city known for its food, Jordyn’s Soul Café is setting the bar high — blending soul and Caribbean flair into something uniquely Chicago. Come hungry, come curious, and come ready to fall in love with every bite.
As u c I got chrgd 20%auto when menu says 20%auto on 2or mr. Anthr patron cm n 2bar & I had 2tell him 2get smbdy after he sat abt 3mnt’s. Dfntly nd 2do better on that.
When I walked in, I felt like I walked into my cuzzin’s house and she just threw down and she just happened to have a big ol’ bar in the middle of her house. That’s the vibe.
Now be prepared to wait for everything you order. if you wanna rush, I don’t know if this is the place for you, especially if you with other people. I wasn’t tripping for real because I was having amazing conversation, but it was a turn off that I ordered my appetizer with my drink and it came out after my food. I was completely confused, but whatever.
The drinks had a very nice flavor and they were cute. Gave my little friend a buzz me on the other hand. I probably could’ve used like two extra shots in my drink, cause whet?
The food did not miss. That broccolini was so good like everybody needs to get that. The sweet potatoes were good. The Mac was good. The (Swai) catfish was fried perfectly and seasoned well.
The Jerk lamb chops were tender, had a little bit of a kick, and good flavor. They were probably the thinnest lamb chops I’ve ever seen in life tho. I’m real picky when I when it comes to my lamb chops. And it was so funny listening to my cuzzins at the other table complain about the lamb chops. They like “oh I want my lamb chops medium. I want my lamb chops medium well” and I’m at my table like lol yeah it’s only one way these thin lamb chops is being cooked and that’s well done! But let me tell you those same cuzzins ordered some oxtails and when I tell you, I watched this man clean that bone…So guess what I’m having next time I go? PERIOD.
I didn’t even get dessert. This is how I know. I gotta go back because who don’t get dessert on their birthday?
Aw yeah, there is a 20% gratuity added to parties of two people or more just putting that out there. Tip on the tip if you want to.
We had a 6:00 PM reservation and were seated early at 5:45 PM, which was great. However, we did not receive our food until 7:10 PM. That’s over an hour after our reservation time and almost an hour and a half after being seated.
The food did not make up for the wait. The mac and cheese was burnt and had no flavor, the candied yams were undercooked, and the greens were just okay. The oxtails were decent, but nothing special. They brought out complimentary fried catfish for the delay, but it was extremely salty. My daughter’s smothered chicken was also very salty.
Overall, this was a 1 out of 10 experience. After reading other reviews, it seems many people have had similar issues. If you choose to go, be prepared to wait 2+ hours for your food. Otherwise, I’d recommend going somewhere else.
We ordered the Salmon Alfredo with shrimp, spicy buffalo wings, deviled eggs, and the Wildberry Garden drink (grapefruit instead of strawberry), and every single item hit. The salmon was tender, the Alfredo was rich and flavorful, and the wings had just the right amount of heat. Even the deviled eggs were on point — you can tell attention is paid to the details here.
Shoutout to Jaythan and Tre — they were amazing, attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. Customer service like that really makes a difference.
To top it off, the peach cobbler with ice cream was the perfect ending — warm, sweet, and comforting.
Great food, great vibes, and great service. I’ll definitely be back and recommending this spot to everyone. If you’re looking for real soul food done right, this is it.
