Favorite spot for coffee in Newburyport. The Kimchi sandwich, Green and Grain Bowl, Mezze plate, and the breakfast sandwich are all killer. I come here with my wife and son as often as we can. We live down the street and come to Joppa to add a bright spot into our day. You can tell the owner and staff pour their hearts into this business and the community. They are always helpful, informative and knowledgeable. Whether we’re grabbing a bottle of orange wine, a slice of quiche or a coffee – Joppa is always there and we’d be lost without them!

The staff is friendly and the space is very nice. We’ve been in a few times but this was our first time ordering food. It was very disappointing. The prices are very high (almost $60 for two sandwiches, seltzers, and small bags of chips, plus tip). We waited 25 minutes for the sandwiches and they were pathetic. Spending $4.50 for chicken and having it on only 1/3 of the sandwich is misleading at best. We expected high quality ingredients but to our sandwiches both had what looked like romaine lettuce, sliced white bread, and cheap pickles (green like they’ve been chemically pickled)). And I’m not sure where the tomato went but it wasn’t on my sandwich. We won’t be giving the food another shot and neither should you.
To the owner who is disappointed that we didn’t address the sandwich concerns directly, you can imagine that after waiting so long for food on a not so busy day, we were disinterested in waiting even longer to have it corrected. Facts have been spoken, compliments given where due, and we made no exaggerations. Better reviews come with a better product.

I’ve lived in Newburyport for 10 years and have been shopping at Joppa even longer. It is one of my favorite spots in town and I am so grateful to have them as part of the community.
Abbie and her staff are always friendly, attentive and welcoming. They often greet customers by name and are quick to offer help or make suggestions. The cozy cafe area and leafy patio are the perfect spot to catch up with friends over a meal or coffee. During the lunch rush, I appreciate their online ordering system which always gives timely, accurate updates (in store ordering is always prompt as well!).
The care the Joppa team puts into purveying and preparing quality food and drink is only outshone by the effort they put into creating a warm, welcoming environment for all who visit. The passion of their entire team is evident in all that they do.

I’ve been stopping by Joppa Fine Foods a couple of times a month for years – they have the best Havana Latte in Newburyport — and their made-to-order sandwiches are excellent, with great variety and fresh ingredients. I also joined their monthly wine club about a year ago, in part because I like the selection they have in the store and the way they display it (by taste, with descriptions that make it easy to get what you want). And always such great people. Highly recommend Joppa for morning coffee or for lunch or for wine to take to the beach.

Joppa is like a big hug. I grew up in NBPT and have seen the many iterations of this special little space. Some of my favorite food items from all over Italy and CA are right there – less than a mile from my house. The staff is friendly, they are always playing great music. I dream about their scones & cookies and am so grateful to have such a special spot with such curated selections right here in our community. We are super lucky. Don’t skip the breakfast sandwich ever – arugula, red pepper jelly – all of it.

I can’t seem to break up with the green and grain bowl here. It’s delicious and beautiful. I usually get it to go and when I finally slide the box open, I am always blown away by how carefully assembled this meal is. It’s a real treat – full of texture and flavor. Add pickled onions! Or pickled fennel – yum. Hard to stop, so many options. While this bowl is a bit pricier than similar local stops, it is far superior – the ingredients are different and never over-chopped or full of rice like some bowls I have had. It’s so good. I also really like the truffle chips and a chai latte, plus checking out shop offerings – there’s always something new. Abbie and her crew provide exceptional offerings – enjoy!

If you want tasty food, go here! Love the vegan and gluten free options. Plus the atmosphere is great. Don’t expect great quality at fast food prices, whether it’s here or other small businesses & restaurants. Such a unique place, it’s harder and harder to find foodspots that focus on homemade and gourmet food but Joppa does a good job.
