to say this was an experience would be an understatement. 3 hours of pure smiles. It’s hard not to smile when you’re here. The food was an adventure for your mouth. Which sounds cliché, but every bite has layers of flavor. Everything is precisely crafted and you can tell a lot of thought was put into each item.
Then there’s the staff. Extremely professional, but they’re more than happy to answer questions and chat. Insanely friendly people. They’re very detail oriented, noticing stuff as small as your dominant hand. And the cherry on top: I was celebrating an anniversary, and they went out of their way to make a custom themed presentation for the dessert, on theme for something we talked about with one of the staff members earlier in the night. Completely unprompted. By far the kindest gesture I’ve ever experienced at a restaurant.
I cannot praise this place enough.
Food itself was great and we got to try a few unique items, such as fish with scales lifted up which added a nice crunch to the dish.
Desert courses deserve a special mention, after the meal you switch to a different room to enjoy them. Presentation is beautiful of course!
You can enhance your experience with various drinks pairings or additions. We only added a special melon which was lovely. You also get a welcome drink included with experience.
Note for the music too, it seems surprising at first as it is not whay you’d expect in fine dining ambiance, however it somohow works, it adds to the modern funky vibe of the place.
The service is what stood out to me as well as the menu. There were many surprises and things that continued to wow throughout the evening.
The level of craftsmanship, technique, and skill presented were masterclass. I loved my experience and would love to return again. The staff made my dining experience special and it was a memorable evening.
Flawless service, polished and professional, but deeply engaged and personable, filled with storytelling that enriches the experience and makes everything indelible.
Extraordinary culinary bravery and creativity, filled with big swings that almost always connect, while staying accessible and enjoyable.
The open kitchen format and staff-sourced 90’s hip-hop playlist (filled with memorable tracks from when they were all getting into the restaurant game) added a loose, fun vibe that made you relax and really let yourself enjoy the experience.
No notes. Incredible job, Jônt team, bravo.
The food itself is simply divine. Each dish is a testament to the chef’s dedication to quality and passion for their craft. You can taste the freshness in every bite, a result of the meticulous care and attention given to sourcing the finest ingredients. The flavors are a masterful blend of exquisite but familiar, a delicate dance on the palate that brings out the serene beauty of Japan’s shores right here in the heart of DC. The taste is so profound every bite is a revelation, sending you on a journey to pure bliss. Thanks Chef Ryan for your wonderful creation!
We spent $805.86/person (including the mocktail pairing, tax, service fee, and two separate enhancements) for less food that was less delicious and more expensive than Little Pearl or Pineapple and Pearls. (Unaffiliated.)
The matsukasa yaki fish and some of the non-alcoholic pairings missed the mark for us. Additionally, the $225 enhancement (snow Wagyu and lobster) was not worth it at all; I was almost indifferent between the “enhanced” and standard dishes.
I really recommend that you save a few hundred dollars and visit one of the two Pearl restaurants instead.
