Jolly Cone is a wonderful little restaurant in Van Buren MO. They only accept cash no credit cards. They do have an ATM on site if you need to get cash. Outdoor seating with picnic tables under a roof and sunblock. Food is good! Ice cream is good! Enjoy a nice meal after spending time at the current river or Big Spring nearby.

Jolly Cone on the Current is a Van Buren staple since 1953! I had my very first banana split there about 1972 and, no matter how far I’ve roamed, there’s scarcely been a year when I haven’t had another. The star of their show is the Jolly Burger. It is a next-level sloppy joe made from a recipe that was developed by the original owners, the Houston family. The Jolly Cone’s chili dogs, in regular or foot long are next among their classics. It is same meat sauce, slathered over a fried hot dog. I like mine with sweet pickle relish, you can also get it with cheese, but it will also stand alone, so do you! (dude. I’m getting hungry). Their wide variety of soft-serve ice cream offerings are incredible. Their hamburgers and other offerings are good too, but you simply must try their foundational menu items. Their prices are a bit higher than McDonald’s. That’s undeniable. However, the homemade goodness of the Jolly Cone is worth it. Every. Single. Time!

What’s better than an ice cream after a day of playing in the river.
Jolly Cone is the place to be. It’s been here for a long time, even been through the great flood.
Ice cream is great, didn’t try the food but I’m sure it’s great too.
Wish they had more places to sit, place gets busy.

There are a handful of pros and cons about this place, and if properly warned, you’ll have a great experience.
Pros:
1. We got some shakes, and they were VERY good. They honestly competed for some of the best shakes we’ve ever had.
2. Their burgers are decent and cheap. They are the char-broiled type, so if that’s not a flavor you like, steer clear.
3. Their staff is pretty friendly.
Cons:
1. Their sides are expensive. I ordered a side of fries, which cost 5 dollars (I think). It was a bag of crinkle cut with perhaps a bit more food than a medium fry at McDonalds. They weren’t anything special.
2. They only take cash. Be prepared for that. They do have an ATM next to the store, though.
3. I’m unsure if it’s common, but they got our order wrong. They did make it right, though.
Overall, this might be a place you’ll love or a place you won’t like at all. We came for the legacy and their vintage ice cream charcter mascot.

What a great little place. Cash only if you are from out of town. The ATM was out of service so make sure you have cash with you when you go. Cheeseburger and fries were delicious. I had a sundae with hot fudge and carmel…..mmmmmmm
If you are in the Van Buren/current river area it’s a must!

Both my girlfriend and I got a double cheeseburger that was very average in taste, yet very well presented. The fried pickles tasted quite bland (not very sour at all like you’d expect) and the fries were also quite mediocre. The ranch was also very underwhelming to say the least (we were served initially with one small cup for two decent-sized sides). However, the Sundaes were the best part and they serve quite delicious ice cream! This is an establishment that seems to be widely enjoyed yet I don’t see how anyone could come that often considering for just the two of us we paid nearly 50 dollars for the whole meal!

We were just driving through and wanted something for lunch that wasn’t a chain, so this old-fashion cash-only hamburger stand looked like it would be just right… instead, it was the saddest burger, fries & milkshake I’ve ever been served in my life.
Burger — super extra dry and somehow even worse than from a school cafeteria. Asked for onions and they put on less than a single ring.
Fries — no salt at all, only 1 ketchup pack (good luck getting any kind of service while the high-school staff is horsing around and actively avoiding the window…) And $5 for a portion smaller than my fist! Literal highway robbery!
Shake — Very weak, and thin enough that it’s served with regular skinny beverage straws.
I spent $20 exactly because I didn’t feel like waiting around all day for a few coins in change. For reference, the same meal from Dairy Queen would be half the price and 10x the flavor. At least.
And to be clear, I wasn’t expecting anything fancy or anything. I’m a realist – I just assumed it would be equivalent to Dairy Queen. I was so wrong! The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because I feel that people disregard 1 star reviews. Otherwise I would give it Zero because how do you screw up Burger&Fries this bad??

I will tell you this is a cool quaint ice cream place. The burgers are just average and what you would expect in a small town place but the service ia great and the ice cream is really good.
I would say they have really cool fries thiga like pickles mushrooms and okra.
Seating ia outside and parking lot is of ok size. Cash only. If you are local they will take a check.

Jolly Cone is great. I love ice cream, and they didn’t disappoint. The selection is good, and the servers were friendly. We went on Mother’s Day, so they closed early; we barely made it in time. I recommend stopping by anytime you’re in Van Buren.
