They waited in line, ordered and got their food in roughly 1 hour. Thats crazy.
The original oklahoma truffle burger is truly delicious but half way in, not so good. The smash burger is cooked well and crispy, the double patties allows you to taste the beef, but its overwhelming by the amount of sauce in the burger. Onions are sweated and cooked but still overwhelmed by the truffle sauce. The buns was warm, soft, buttery, but the sauce just covered everything. Half way through, I just tasted sauce and I was very displeased, almost forcing myself to finish it. It possible is their style, and if you like it , you will love it. For me, the burger with a little dressing of the sauce would have been better.
We also ordered regular and truffle fries. Both were good, nice and crispy. Truffle taste was sprinkled evenly throughout, wasnt dominating the fries. Was enjoyable.
Im sure the atmosphere was hot, muggy and uncomfortable waiting for a long time to eat smash burgers in the farmers market. But thats to be expected when going to an open market. So I could only review the food, not service nor atmosphere.
Would I got back. No. The tourist, the influencer, and the people who chase fomo can experience and popularize the place. I’ll pass.
Also, for the price $19 for one smashburger and $7 for fries. There are better smashburgers found around honolulu that cost less and still delicious.
Final verdict: burger was delicious, a good smash burger. It wasn’t dry and it’s got a good char. The truffle sauce was kinda weak and runny. It’s a mess to eat but nonetheless it went really well with the burger. The patty could have more beef flavor and could use a tad bit more salt.
Not saying it wasn’t good but for $19 I’ve had better. I would definitely not stand in line for this. I’m just glad I got to try it without waiting otherwise I would be so disappointed.
Worth a try? Maybe if there’s no wait. Worth waiting for more than 15 mins? Probably not.
On one hand the burger is great. Crisp patty, caramelized onions, tons of truffle sauce. The taste is fantastic, but it IS a lot of sauce. It’s a wet freakin burger, you’ll get messy brah. It’s also a good size.
On the other hand it’s EXPENSIVE. And a pretty long wait sometimes. (Edit: updated description! ) Nearly 20 bucks for just one burger with no add ons, BUT it is a double patty, and it’s quality, but just something to consider.
Overall a really unique burger and one of the best on island.
