We visited Joia Restaurant this past week and tried their Bacalhau à Brás and the steak. The steak lacked salt, and so did the bacalhau. But the bacalhau also lacked pepper. It was very bland. The atmosphere was good and the service as well. Staff was friendly and attentive. Their flan was also good and the prices weren’t outrageous.

The most important issue was the hygiene. Please do NOT place customers’ silverware directly on the surface of the table, it is unhygienic. Silverware should be placed on a napkin provided by the restaurant or left on the appetizer plates. Not everyone is willing to accept that.

The complimentary bread was cold, and they didn’t bother to warm it up. The appetizers were better; the chorizo was actually very good. However, the main course was disappointing. The meat smelled spoiled, and I’m not sure if it was due to how it was cooked or the quality itself, but the texture was tough and rubbery, not juicy at all, even though I ordered it medium. We were a group of eight, and although the restaurant was completely empty except for us, the service was very slow. The beans tasted like they were taken straight from a can and poured into a bowl.

The dessert was good, but overall, based on our experience, I do not recommend this restaurant.

We went to this restaurant for dinner. The lobster was overcooked, which affected the flavor, but in general was good.

Our server was fabulous! He recommended the best wine when the one requested was out. They have gluten free pasta which i wish was advertised. Cacio Pepe was delicious although it’s not table side like the menu mentions. Complimentary bread and pesto dish is nice to start. Short rib pasta and eggplant app was a bit bland but ok.

My partner and I went here becuase we wanted to enjoy the happy hour and it worth it and extremely affordable, I can understand why there are is many regulars here. Service is good and food is wonderful. I have done both carry-out and dine-in.

(Top Pick) Pealla Seafood – I bought this thinking it would be a small expensive, boy was I wrong. This thing huge, the shear weight of it was astonishing. Being frugal, my partner and I had enough for 14 servings lasting 3 days!! As 30 bucks, divided by 14 is 2.14 a plate. That is extremely affordable. The taste was fantastic, not too oily, yet the rice goes down easily. The lobster was a shocker as I didnt expect that, the shrimp, clams, muscles, and scallops were there. Each serving I had was filled with seafood, so they don’t cheap out on pleasing you! Its worth it and the taste is incredible!

Ham and Cheese w/French Fries – I bought this thinking it would also be a simple snack, but the rustic style bread is extremely fresh. The ham they used was good quality and cheese was tasty. It tasted good, great quick lunch or snack for sure.

Mac and Cheese w/Shrimp – A nice pile of Mac and Cheese, the cheese was good, thought it was like canned cheese than special mixtures. But it was good, the shrimp was pentiful and good. I recommend this plate for children and fans. I wouldn’t get it again though.

Shrimp Cakes – This was very good, one shrimp in each dumpling like shape. It was like nachos with shrimp.

Pretzel – A huge pretzel with amazing generic canned fake cheese, very obvious but very fun to eat. I rely on the cheese a lot, so maybe won’t get it again, but if you like eating it plain, then its very good.

Complimentary Bread – Fresh baked bread from some bakery, worth it.

Mash Potatoes – Good mixture in the mash potatoes and taste. Nothing wild, but it was a side dish.

French Fries – I decided to give french fries its own review, it tastes great and I am not sure they add an extra coating to it, but they make it really crispy. I will always get fries here!

Overall, amazing experience and food, they know how to prepare food and I would say to come here and try out all the seafood plates! Its worth it. I wish they created their own cheese mixture, still I be a regular here!

drinks were reasonably priced. The restaurant is in a good location away from traffic and has a good outdoor sitting experience. We ordered the full chicken barbecue as it was fresh and saw a lot of people order it. We were sort of disappointed as it was bland to our taste. The bread in the beginning was great.

So I decided to meet one of my girlfriends for lunch for 2pm. I made reservations online. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby, they also had garage parking. When I walked in I was greeted by one of the managers and he sat me. We were served by Eiego and he was fairly new so he was getting helped as he went. He was really nice though and did his best.

For drinks my friend ordered the spiked arnold palmer and I got the $3 mimosas under the brunch special. For our entrées I got the chicken masala special with shrimp and scallops. My friend got the crab eggs benedict. We both enjoyed our meals. The total came to about $80 for both of us. We had a good experience and will return because it is a really cute spot in a nice location.

Choose this place to meet our friend as she returned from NYC to Philly. Just a couple blocks from the PATH train. The place is large and was quiet on Wednesday afternoon. The portions are large and will provide several days of leftovers.

Food is out of this world!!! Really well thought out menu with quality and fresh ingredients. Joia has an amazing bar with plenty of TV if you wanted a quick happy drink and also an amazing dining room to seat large parties! Plenty of parking too right around the corner. Their steak sandwich will be something I dream about. I got it for lunch but honestly this is something I would love to have catered for a party. It was soooo good. Get here ASAP!
