Social Profile:

We are a Restaurant that continues the traditions of the World Famous Johnson’s Grocery (which first opened in 1937 in Eunice, LA). Johnson’s Grocery was the first dry goods store to commercially sell Boudin in 1948 and to this day we continue this tradition by using the same recipes in the making of our Boudin, Smoked (and unsmoked) Sausages, and Tasso. While we stay true to our roots we also serve BBQ and Smoked Meats using Rubs and Sauces developed by Lori’s husband and pit master Greg Walls over 12 years ago. Sit down on our huge covered wrap around porch (heated and cooled) and Listen to local Tunes pumped out by KRVS. Come experience the past and present, the old and the new, at Johnson’s Boucaniere in the heart of downtown Lafayette.

Casual place with outdoor seating that serves smoked meat sandwiches & sells specialty meats.

Liked their smoked meat lunch plate- I got boudin, potato salad, and jambalaya with it! I wanna try a grilled cheese sandwich next time.

Fun place to visit. Really good barbecue. Very tasty meats. We went on a Sunday and got the brunch meal with egg and biscuit on sausage. It was pretty good. We also got the pork steak plate. That was really good. Very large quantities. Unfortunately the brisket was out when we visited.

Excellent BBQ. Not many places are open around here on a Sunday morning but this place was and it was a great surprise. Best BBQ we’ve had in the south. We got the Sunday pork BBQ and the brunch bowl with smoked sausage. Both were excellent – make sure to try the spicy sauce. Staff are super friendly and accommodating. Lovely to sit on the patio with the big windows allowing for a really nice breeze. Top quality.

I ordered the brisket plate. I enjoyed the brisket. For sides, I tried the potato salad, Mac and cheese, and coleslaw. The Mac and cheese was very tasty. I also had a boudin. Although it was difficult to eat the skin, the flavor was amazing.

Pretty good. Had the Clay’s Way (Pulled Pork, Coleslaw, Extra BBQ Sauce) and a link (very tiny) of boudin. Sandwich was good. I wasn’t blown away by any means but good. The boudin was tasty. The spices in it are great. They forgot to put the sauce on my sandwich so I had to ask for some. No big deal. They were cool about it. I plan to return and try more of the menu.

Definitely worth the stop and detour on the way from New Orleans to Houston. Truly delicious and out of the world food and BBQ! Don’t forget to grab some dessert or cake to go! It was amazing. The country style ribs were totally incredible. The just fell apart and so moist. I would live here!

Forever outstanding and unique. I wish Johnson’s Boucaniere wasn’t a 6 hour drive, but it’s worth every mile-marker and p-stop. From their smoked-fried-chicken skins to their brisket-stuffed grilled cheese sandwiches, they easily standout amongst even the most laudable Texas ‘que joints —and they ain’t even trying to.

The food here is delicious. They offer a wide variety of items. Our group enjoyed everything we ordered. The Stevie’s grilled cheese sandwiches with meat are amazing! Enjoyed their sliced brisket as well.
