This has been my go to place for years, haven’t been in awhile decided to pick up lunch today and noticed a big change. Usually there’s a long line which I didn’t mind waiting because the food is so good. The vibe is off, the menu was wrong and the food definitely doesn’t taste the same. This is what I got for $23 .. yea the prices changed as well, won’t be returning

After 37 years, seeing John’s Fine Foods close its doors truly hits close to home for me. As the owner of Ray’s Southern Foods and as someone who has spent years serving this same community, I understand how much heart, sacrifice, and dedication it takes to stay open and feed families for that length of time.
Being right across the street, I’ve always had a deep respect for what they meant to this neighborhood. Restaurants become part of people’s lives — birthdays, Sunday dinners, quick lunches, and family traditions — and John’s has been part of those memories for generations.
I just personally want to say thank you to their team for the role they played in shaping our local food culture and serving this community for nearly four decades. That kind of longevity deserves respect.
Wishing everyone connected to John’s Fine Foods peace, rest, and success in whatever comes next. I’m grateful we were able to share this community alongside them.

Walked in on a Tuesday afternoon. Walked up to the area where you order and make eye contact with no acknowledgement or smile or even a notion that I should be placing my order with her. I then HAD TO ASK her if she is the one taking my order. She then says yes and nothing else but look at me. I’m assuming this is her way of communication but clearly she can open her mouth to her coworkers. As I continue to choose my sides she continues to keep her mouth closed and look at me not even asking what else would you like what would you like nothing of that sort. Macaroni is absolutely garbage like inedible. Will be throwing it out as soon as I get home. Greens good. Ribs are good but was cold. How I don’t know when there is an immediate buffet style setting where the food is plated. Asked to speak to a manager to avoid this review and the lady who is the “manager” said that she is officially clocked out. Lol safe to say I won’t be coming back to way $18 Way better soul food spots for so much less. Thank you for showing once again southern hospitality no longer exists in the south!

if you like food that tastes like home cooked food, you will love this place, or it use to be like that… I was here several years ago…. Me and some coworkers went on my suggestion ….. they were skeptical…. they are what I call “Lilly white”… most of the customers were black, as were the staff…. Me…raised in the Deep South..white and not rich…….lol… I felt right at home…it reminded me of many a small restaurant when I lived in Selma.. the food was delicious… and when I wanted my field peas to smother my rice… the lady asked, where’d you learn that from… I told her I was raised in the south, and that’s the only way I know how to eat them….what a nice down home place to get a home cooked meal… sorry I didn’t post this sooner…. hope they are all doing well….

Farewell to Johns Fine food !!!!! As of now whoever is in control either purchased the name with the building or when John passed away a couple of years ago he left it in control with the wrong people. Normally when something is broken you fix it ,but if it isn’t broken then you just chill and relax . Not able to see the selection of food ,but still carry the name is insane!!!!! Sometimes the original John was a hit and miss depending on how the food selection looks , this new John’s just want u to order and accept the bad food too lol

To management keep the carry out but also add fine dining with waiters taking and placing orders. And change the name to John’s Fine food phrase 2 , that way the die hard customers won’t feel tricked

Our first visit here in quite some time. Being Sunday afternoon there was a constant flow of customers but the line moved steadily. We were served by a friendly team member, and our bill was on par for 3 dinners (2 with ribs, macaroni and cheese, turnips, and blackeyed peas on the side; 1 with baked chicken over dressing, macaroni and cheese, and yams). We enjoyed the meal, and our only comment is that the peas could have stood just a tad more seasoning. Otherwise, we appreciate you all for a good meal and positive experience.

Ordered smothered chicken, yams, and mac n cheese. Where is it smothered? I thought smothered meant gravy?? Then the yams were bitter n mac was salty. We use to come 3-4 times a week but since Mr. John not running it the food n service has went down. Prices went up but not the quality of food . Last time I’ll drive 25 mins for meh food. Then I was home so didnt feel like going back up to complain.

You are going to be very disappointed with this place. Ever since the owner died, the staff has been doing everything possible to run customers, especially customers who have been going there consistently for over 35 years away. I wanted to give them a chance before posting a review, but clearly they are not interested or concerned about customer satisfaction. They are hiring people who destroys the customer experience and there’s no one to complain to. This place has excellent food but you have to use a lot of cuss words to deal with the workers. They argue with you and ready to fight if they really get pissed off. Now you can’t see the food you are purchasing because they have closed off visual buffet line which means you will get what they give you. The last 2 years I have been going, I have complained to security and they tell me that the new environment that place has become. Either you accept it or go somewhere else. I travel almost a 1 hour drive to that location because t
