Let us start with excellent service, because that starts long before you get your food. Casual and very friendly, and all servers watch all tables, not just their own, so don’t be cheap with your gratuity!

Cheeseburger Soup as side served first, a loaf of French bread and a bowl of this and I would never have made it to the BBQ, fortunately only had a cup with crackers.

Wife had a featured plate (you know specials are something you get at K-Mart by the blue light) which was Tico Chicken. Seasoned with a mix the owner got in Costa Rica. Nice little char flavor with the seasoning, on properly cooked thighs, went really well with the Cranberry based sauce, very nice!

I had the Sampler plate as I always do the first time at a house of Q. Pork Loin was probably the most moist Pork Loin I have ever had, and Pork Loin is a barometer for BBQ as it is the most difficult protein to keep moist with modern pork. Brisket was very good but seemed a little light on the rub, my tastes maybe not yours. The Turkey was great, just plain GREAT!!

I can’t help you with the sauce selection as I believe good BBQ does not require sauce, and John’s does not IMHO.

Dessert – Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce, enough said, yummy.

Go eat here and treat yourself to some great food, and service!!

Tried this for the first time today. We absolutely loved it. I got the brisket dinner with fries and Cole slaw and my wife got the pulled pork sandwich with mashed potatoes. To drink we had the draft 1919 Root Beer and it was exceptional! Our waitress was very friendly and we were greeted with a smile the moment we walked in. Try it!

I drive a truck across the country for a living…and this little gem is worth walking a mile from the truck stop. I just introduced the family to this place, and the wife and kids LOVED it! My wife recommends the ribs, the kids loved the chicken and bacon mac n cheese. I’m partial to the smoked turkey (try the cranberry bbq sauce with it!!!). You can’t go wrong with the fried green beans for an appetizer, and the apple crisp is a MUST for dessert.

This place rocks! All the apps are good, especially the Toad Bellies & Pig Tails – you can have them Sweet OR Spicy! How awesome, right?! The Gin Buckets are amazing too, if you’re feelin’ thirsty!

If you haven’t had the Tico Chicken yet…you haven’t lived!

This place is a diamond in the rough!

From the outside, a non-descript, green clapboarded 1950’s looking diner. Your first hint of the greatness that lies inside is the heady aroma of the smoker working overtime on creating some really good barbeque. The ribs are top notch, the pulled pork is excellent, and the brisket is the best we’ve had anywhere north of Texas.

The side orders are great, we highly recommend the applesauce – we take both of our sides as a double order of this. Sweet, chunky, a hint of cinnamon (even the occasional bit of seed fiber). Apple pie without the crust!

The service is very good. The operation is family run, as evidenced by the way they make you feel like a welcome guest. The décor is reminiscent of a Northwoods supper club. Very welcoming and cozy.

We go out of our way to stop in when we’re in the area.

Terrible place. Stopped with ragbrai at 8:55 with 5 kids which is 5 minutes before they close. Fine OK but don’t lie to me and say you are out of food. Just say you are closed 5 minutes early.
